Oh Gawd! Please help. Baby 5 weeks old and still no name...

Dara
Bran
Gabriel
Patrick
Felix
Hugh
Niall

That's our longlist, but please suggest other similarish options!

I really like Felix.
Think boys names are much harder, our DS1 was just called Boyboy for 6 weeks then we called him the name we first thought of.

If it's irish names - Tadhg is my nephew's name?

The reason I don't like Dara is because it looks like a girl's name. The spelling Darragh is OK though (although there will be spelling issues).

Dara Sean - Hmm, it's okay
Bran Sean - No way
Gabriel Sean - Quite nice actually
Patrick Sean - Definitely like it
Felix Sean - Also nice
Hugh Sean - No way, sounds like a sheep
Niall Sean - Not as nice as the others

I'd rank Patrick, Gabriel then Felix with Sean.

Already have a Finn, so no to Fintan (and we took 6 weeks to name him too!).

Scottishmummy - we think naming a child is such a responsibility that we want to get it right, that and we are both procratinators! I guess you have more pressure - don't you get two or three weeks to register?

Tadhg is lovely but I know it would never get pronounced properly here.

DP thinks Dara too girly too. Prefer this spelling though.

Patrick Sean does sound pretty good, doesn't it? No one seems to hate it either.

Like option of Paddy (think Paddy Ashdown quite a cool chap!)

Yes, he is the nicest man I've ever met. He is a fantastic father. He is pretty handsome too. He is good with his hands.

Not Pat, I agree. I always call him Patrick, but to other friends he is Paddy.

Oh, and we are BOTH off to bed

Ooo I know really hot Niall and love the name so that would be my favourite. But Patrick is a fantastic name and goes perfectly with Sean.

Plus Patch is just so cute and cool at the same time

i feel your pain we discounted many of names but did have the imperative of wanting name chosen for birth

thing about a name is you may love it some one else will hate it.no matter how much thought,reflection and rumination you put into it

so have you just used "baby" all this time?

I hear in Switzerland that you have to give the baby a name whilst in hospital!

I am in Switzerland, we have 3 days to register the birth. Often the hospitals do it for you but you can take the full 3 days (ha!) to consider then register yourself.

Patrick is a name that travels well, it is easily understood in other languages.
