2 wks to go - please rate my shortlist...

I'm now two weeks away from the big day, don't know if it's a boy or girl and haven't given names much thought. Could I get some brutally honest opinions on these to help me cut the list down? The boys list is a bit thin, could do with some ideas...

Girls:
Lois
Iris
Aneka
Penelope (long shot)

Boys:
Monty
Sonny
Ari

Girls:
Lois - OK, but boring.
Iris - LOVELY!!
Aneka - NO
Penelope (long shot)- Cute.

Boys:
Monty - Nice
Sonny - I like it!
Ari - NO

Thinking about international portability - Iris is beautiful but will only really work in English. I like Penelope-short-to-Nell best.

I really really like Lois and I like Monty a lot too.

Ari, also sounds to me like someone from around here (Manchester) saying Harry .

Girls:
Lois - makes me think of Lois Lane, or old ladies smelling of lavendar.

Iris - pretty but v popular right now.
Aneka - no, makes me think of Anneka Rice (shudder)
Penelope (long shot) - I actually quite like this, Penny is cute.

Boys:
Monty - hmmm not good unless it was Montgomery, and that's a lot of name for a little one.
Sonny - No, it's a NN (makes me think of Sonny in the Godfather, I think he was called Santangelo)
Ari - Is this short for something? Sounds like he's called Harry but you're dropping your H's. I'd say no to that as well I'm afraid.

I only like Iris

I don't like Aneka but I do like your other girls names, particularly Penelope.

I like Monty, Sonny is ok and I don't like Ari.

I think Ari would spend a lot of time correcting people who think he is Harry.

Like Iris and Lois. Have never liked Penelope, but do appreciate that I am in the minority.

Ari is pronounced Aah-ri, not 'arry.

Oh ok. It's not a name I have come accross and I suspect most people would pronounce it 'arry.

I like Monty and Penelope.

Anya instead of Aneka ? (if your DH isn't keen)

Monty makes me think of Uncle Monty from Withnail and I

But then again I was asking DH today if he would consider naming a child after Monty Python

I like Lois actually; Penelope is due a comeback too. Penny is a nice nickname (actually I know a Penny but only one).

Monty is the only one of yr boys' names I like, sorry. It's quite posh tho. I know one and he can carry it off but not everybody would want it as a name I feel.

I love Iris and quite like Penelope (nn Nell is nice as suggested by peppapig3).
Not keen on Aneka at all. Makes me think of Anneka Rice.
Lois is my DD's middle name. I didn't love it enough for a first name, but it's a family name for me so I've got a Matilda Lois which I think goes nicely.
What about Elsie for a fairly unusual but short girls' name?
Boys - I have to agree with the others that Sonny's not a good name for a grown up (unless it's a nn) I LOVE Monty though, and agree you could use it as a full name.
Not keen on Ari at all I'm afraid.

don't like any of the boys names, sorry. Prefer names that can be shortened rather than shortened versions as names. My favourite boys names are Henry adn Edward

Loving Penelope with nn Nell. Not keen on the boy's names except Monty tbh
