For our first child we chose the name that is not very obvious how to spell /pronounce. But it is unusual and I still like it.
Can you please help with suggestions for our second. Not sure if this one should be the same or something more popular although we prefer unusual names. Or are all of these becoming popular and some maybe overdone (i.e. Ruby,Poppy) Thanks!
Our short list is not that short any more:

Imogen
Mabel
Olive
Freya
Melody
Kitty
Charlotte
Lilla/Lila
Isla
Ines
Maia
Annabel
Amber
Poppy
Scarlett
Hannah
Ruby
Sienna
Thea

Love Mabel and Olive and Thea (as a nn for Dorothea).
Tbh i am a bit bored by the others, they dont have any spark for me.

Mabel is FAB though

saadia · 12/05/2009 11:18

Out of those, I like Thea and I think it is the most unusual.

boodleboot · 12/05/2009 11:19

GiraffeAHolic · 12/05/2009 11:25

You've chosen some great names but here is my opinion:

Imogen - no
Mabel - cute
Olive - no
Freya - no
Melody - NO!
Kitty - cute
Charlotte - OK but boring
Lilla/Lila - Lilla no, Lila ok....
Isla - cute
Ines - NO!
Maia - no
Annabel - I prefer Annabelle
Amber - no
Poppy - OK for a little girl or a grandma, not an adult woman.
Scarlett - no
Hannah - NO!
Ruby - Love it, but I know 6 Rubys under the age of 5 so no.
Sienna- no
Thea - Actually very nice but I prefer Theodora and Thea as a nick name. Theodora is such a strong name, a shame not to use it.

sockmonster · 12/05/2009 13:12

Imogen - niceish but wouldn't choose it

Mabel- not really

Olive - no!

Freya - ghastly

Melody - even worse

Kitty- nice

Charlotte-incredibly boring but classic..

Lilla/Lila - Lila or Lilia, not Lilla.

Isla- to me this is ''is-la'' aka island in spanish, not 'eye-la', so I don't like it

Ines - I love this name, classy and unusual

Maia - a bit naff

Annabel - I like

Amber- no

Poppy- no.jamie oliver. cute name though

Scarlett- no, common

Hannah- terrifyingly dull and tres 80s

Ruby - nice but common

Sienna - seriously chav

Thea- nice, how about theadora?

therefore, the ones I like are- Ines, Thea, Lila, Kitty, Annabel and Ruby and Mabel aren't too bad

sockmonster · 12/05/2009 13:14

Sorry didn't read the above before posting! Go with Theodora and Thea as nn. Or Ines, Annabel or Kitty!

I have a Mabel, she is like a Lucy Mabel Atwell child, with dark curly hair and huge green eyes. I get great comments all of the time and it is very unused but not unusual...IFYSWIM
Also love Olive and Bunty

malenagrrl · 12/05/2009 13:49

Annabel Kitty has a ring to it.... or Theodora on its own.

Really like Melody

weepootle · 12/05/2009 19:44

Imogen - Lovely, was on my list
Mabel - No, not one of the 'pretty' old lady names.
Olive - Possibly... prefer Olivia even though it's very popular.
Freya - Nice
Melody - Awful
Kitty - Cute but wouldn't use.
Charlotte - Gorgeous.
Lilla/Lila - Lovely, if Lila.
Isla - Very nice.
Ines - Nice, prefer spelling Innes.
Maia - Ok, prefer Maya.
Annabel - Ok.
Amber - NO, stripper.
Poppy - Gorgeous and not too popular everywhere.
Scarlett - No.
Hannah - No.
Ruby - No.
Sienna - NO.
Thea - I like how it sounds but don't think it looks pretty written down.

Some other suggestions which I think tie in with your other names are:

Violet
Mirren
Effie

Lola11 · 13/05/2009 09:36

Thank you everyone!
Sienna, Melody Hannah, Ruby, Maia definitely now coming off the list.

Favourites so far: Thea, Innes, Kitty, Isla and Annabel although I know Annabel is not unusual. I like Violet too. What do you think about Amelie and Evangeline?

OP posts:
Bobblebuddy · 13/05/2009 09:50

you're right that some of the "unusual" names are now being used so often that they are becoming popular. Amelie is pretty popular now I think.

My dd is called Lelaina (rhymes with Elaina) nn Lainey. We get the odd funny look but mostly people comment on how beautiful it is, and how much it suits her. Maybe you need to wait til dd is born and see which one she fits the best?

Kitty reminds me of the mom of Dharma and Greg - bit country club for me . Evangeline is one of those names that will always be shortened, hardly ever used in full, so you would have to think what the nn would be.

Also love Malory, wanted to used it for my next if a girl, but it has an unfortunate meaning (the unlucky one )
