Opinions on Theo, please!

What are your opinions on Theo as a name?

If you have a Theo, what have you put on the birth certificate- Theo or Theodore? My brother is Alex and this is what is on his birth certificate, not Alexander, he has never wished for a longer name. So, I am tempted to stick with just Theo.

We already have a Sophie so I am right in thinking Sophie and Theo sound quite good together?

Many thanks.

It's a lovely name and goes very well with Sophie.

JulesJules · 30/04/2009 18:19

Lovely name. I also think it goes v well with Sophie.

I think Theo is fine, no need to use Theodore unless you really want to.

(I have a Thea, btw )

sophieandbelly · 30/04/2009 18:21

i to think sophie and theo go well, altho iam not sure y but always thought of theo as a chubby kids name!! do like it tho!

beatiebow · 30/04/2009 18:25

i'd love a Theo if someone would let me.

bluebump · 30/04/2009 18:28

I have a Theo, and he is just that. It never really occurred to us to put Theodore on his birth certificate. I think it is a popular name in some areas but he's the only one I know around here but it may be different by the time he is at school I guess.

I think it goes well with Sophie btw.

janeite · 30/04/2009 18:31

Lovely.

jellybeans · 30/04/2009 18:34

I like it, stick with just Theo. Most boys have short names now or names which come from longer names eg Ben, Sam, Jack.

Niecie · 30/04/2009 18:37

Lovely

Just use Theo on the birth cert too

Thunderduck · 30/04/2009 18:40

Love it.

sockmonster · 30/04/2009 19:59

I love the name Theo... usually I'd say put Theodore on the bc- but it may be a little mean on him having 'Theodore' called out at every register/appointment etc. Go with Theo and a longer middle name?

RachieB · 30/04/2009 23:40

LOVE it! and would just to with Theo

mantaray · 01/05/2009 09:46

Thank you all for positive replies. DH is 75% there with the name so it looks like we have found a name for the little one!

I'd go for just Theo too, it's a lovely name but for me Theodore is a little less lovely. I know a Theodore and until I met his mum I assumed she must be American.

Sparkletastic · 01/05/2009 09:54

Great name - just register as Theo though

WinkyWinkola · 01/05/2009 10:06

Theodore. I love Theodore. He can be Theo in RL.

naturalblonde · 01/05/2009 10:09

I love Theo - DD2 would have been Theo if she was a DS

MrsMattie · 01/05/2009 10:12

I love Theo on it's own and Theodore. It's definitely getting popular. I blame Theo Walcott! It was on our list if DD had been a boy, though.

cazinski · 01/05/2009 17:03

Ahhhh I LOVE the name Theo, that was our boy choice for our DD that is due in August. I'll be saving it for the future though in case we have any boys.

Good choice! And just name him Theo-it's lovely on it's own, no Theodore...Theobald, bleergghh!

EvieBear · 01/05/2009 17:07

I love Theo and it goes well with Sophie too. I would choose Theo if I have a ds but it doesnt go with our surname!

chaya5738 · 01/05/2009 17:12

I love Theo (it is on our list) but I also like Theodore so would probably put that on the birth certificate.

(btw, EvieBear and I must have the same taste in names!)

rek21 · 01/05/2009 21:22

Sorry, just posted my own thread about Thea which we have just chosen for dd because I didn't want to hijack your thread, but I love Theo too. We are not using Dorothea (or Theodora) because they seem like a bit of a mouthful, but they have the same meaning as Theodore (gift of god) which is lovely.

TabithaTwitchet · 02/05/2009 13:26

I'm personally not that keen on Theodore because of Alvin and the Chipmunks.
However if it was me I wouldn't want to put just Theo on the birth certificate - how about something like Matheo?

gillybeanie · 02/05/2009 14:21

lovely name was going to be our choice if dc was a boy x xx x

SamsMama · 02/05/2009 14:33

I like it and it's very cute with Sophie. I personally would put a full name on the bc, but that's just me. We never call DS anything but Sam, however his bc says Samuel. (Well, he occasionally gets the full SAMUEL ROBERT when he's naughty...so quite often in fact!)I like nn's for long names though, so it's just MO. Go with what you like. COngrats on your LO!

NorkyButNice · 02/05/2009 14:40

DS is "just" Theo - he's the only one we know, in our area and in nursery.

Lovely name!
