Donald!
What do you think of Donald?
I dont mind the duck - i have always rather liked him. Dont think much of Don.
But the full name Donald - is it good or should i bin it along with Raymond?

It might be worth considering although it is going to be hard for anything to beat Cedric at the mo. But dh really likes it so i said i would give it some thought! So help me do my thinking!

My other dc's are Iris, Eli, Pearl and Amos.
I think Donald might just sound a bit weird in the mix.

He also suggested Dougal and Douglas?
I suppose nn's og Dougie and Duggy are sweet!

Looking forward to hearing opinions!

I love Douglas but I don't really like Donald.

norktasticninja · 17/04/2009 20:08

I actually quite like Dougal , not keen on any of the others though. Douglas and Amos are somehow a bit too similar to my ear although I can't really explain what I mean...

Heated · 17/04/2009 20:08

I teach a Dougal - he has a nn completely unrelated to his first name - and imo it's distinctive without being too way out there. Helps that he is Scottish. He's a very nice boy, if that helps!

I thought I'd met a little Donald at a wedding as his mother kept calling him "Donny" & I asked if it was short for Donald. Turns out he was a Donnay like the sports brand

norktasticninja · 17/04/2009 20:09

Oh and my DP suggested Jip Jip. 'tis a well known name here, but still

IheartNY · 17/04/2009 20:10

Dougal is the nicest one and goes far better with your other DCs names

norktasticninja · 17/04/2009 20:10

Not Jip Jip, just Jip.

BabyBaby123 · 17/04/2009 20:31

they are all awful! sorry

tummytickler · 17/04/2009 20:58

Dh is Scottish and as we live about as far away from Scotland as it is possible to get whilst staying in the UK, i think he is hoping for something Scottish this time!

Noktasticninja - i see what you mean about Douglas and Amos - i hadnt noticed that before (we already wiped Morris for this reason too ). Rofl at Jip! I used to know an old farm dog called Jip when i was a child!

Dougal makes me think of The Magic Roundabout.

tummytickler · 17/04/2009 21:07

I did make a face. Stangely though i love Bernard and dh made a face but think i might be able to talk him 'round! Love a little Bernie - it is my second place at the moment!

How about Donal as a slightly quirkier alternative?

isittooearlyforgin · 17/04/2009 21:09

bernie quite sweet! not sure about douglas, if it helps my dh was very keen on Isambad (as in kingdom brunel) but thought as i was going through pain of childbirth i would get final call!!

dizzydixies · 17/04/2009 21:09

Donal nicer

I love Bernard too but then I'm the woman who wanted to call a child Herbert nn Herb

isittooearlyforgin · 17/04/2009 21:27

herb is lovely as is herbie

tummytickler · 17/04/2009 22:08

Dizzydixies - Amos was nearly Herbert! It was a toss up between Amos and Herbert in the delivery room!

I like Raymond and Donald

SuziSeis · 17/04/2009 22:11

Douglas is fabola

hester · 17/04/2009 22:22

My dd's father suggested calling her Baxter.

I like it about as much as I like Donald - i.e. not at all.

Bernie is strangely attractive, though...

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 17/04/2009 22:28

hi there tt..

your dcs names are ALL fab.... imo none of these suggestions are in the same class as the others.... and douglas / donald etc just dont "go" with iris / eli / pearl / amos.... but that's just my opinion...

jkklpu · 17/04/2009 22:34

Donal isn't exactly quirky: it's Irish not Scottish, so may not meet the key TT's dh criterion.
How about Calum, if you're not sure about Dougal/Douglas? Goes well with the others, imo, in a way that Hamish/Angus/Tammas wouldn't because of the Amos clash.
