Donald!
What do you think of Donald?
I dont mind the duck - i have always rather liked him. Dont think much of Don.
But the full name Donald - is it good or should i bin it along with Raymond?

It might be worth considering although it is going to be hard for anything to beat Cedric at the mo. But dh really likes it so i said i would give it some thought! So help me do my thinking!

My other dc's are Iris, Eli, Pearl and Amos.
I think Donald might just sound a bit weird in the mix.

He also suggested Dougal and Douglas?
I suppose nn's og Dougie and Duggy are sweet!

Looking forward to hearing opinions!

fergus?

pointydog · 17/04/2009 22:42

I have a nephew called \Donald so I'm biased.

You get to like any name, I suppose

thumbwitch · 17/04/2009 22:43

What about Bertie? I love Bertie but not sure which of the longer names I would start off with. Proably not Albert.

My grandad was of Scottish origin and was called Ronald but that's probably on a par with Donald. Was also going to suggest Donal.

What about Finlay?
Iris, Pearl, Amos and Finlay - sound ok?

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 17/04/2009 22:53

......
affleck
ewan
mckenzie / mackenzie
laird
lachlan
paisley

pointydog · 17/04/2009 22:57

what on earth is that list, control?

angelene · 17/04/2009 22:59

seamus?
patrick?
finlay is lovely

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 17/04/2009 23:03

that list my dear pointy represents the highlights from a scottish baby names list on a babynaming site

pointydog · 17/04/2009 23:07

lol!

affleck - not a first name
ewan - hunners of them, it's ok
mckenzie / mackenzie - not a first name (shouldn't be)
laird - would you really want your son to be called Lord? I suppose the english have the name Gaylord .
lachlan - gaining in popularity
paisley - not a name. It's a pattern and a dive

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 17/04/2009 23:09

ooh, a withering critique! all true....

i think the scottish angle is a false lead.... go back to thinking along whatever lines gave you the other lovely names tt....

baby can have donald as middle name....

dizzydixies · 17/04/2009 23:12

ROFL at Paisley being a pattern and a dive never a truer word!!!

tummytickler · 17/04/2009 23:23

Yes - i am having trouble with boys names - i have loads i like but trying to win dh 'round is tough. Cedric is my fav - i think Iris, Eli, Pearl, Amos and Cedric sound lovely.
I might persue Bernard further though!
Donald is a no go.
Dougal - hmmm maybe
Douglas - ummmm.

Not really getting very far - maybe i should go back to Ulysses

Glad you've decided against Donald, would be very unkind to a poor innocent babe.

Have to admit it is one of ds's middle names - dh INSISTED. After his (late) father. Only when we told MIL, she pointed out FIL had always hated his name! Couldn't shift dh though... at least poor ds has a completely different first name and a spare middle so never really needs to admit to Donald.

jkklpu · 18/04/2009 08:57

Cedric could be very cruel indeed, depending on your demographic. Wasn't he one of Walter the softie's friends in the Beano?

TwoScrambledEggs · 18/04/2009 18:06

prefer Duncan and Declan

tummytickler · 18/04/2009 19:56

i dont see why Cedric would be cruel. How is it any different to Alfred, Stanley, Arthur and the like. It just isnt popular thats all. I dont think that it means it is cruel.

I think that's referencing to far back JKKLPU

Cedric is nice, easy to pronounce in many languages too.

Like other suggestions like Donal, but many years of saying "no Donal, not Donald" might get wearing.

How about Finn?

or Flynn.
