What are thoughts on Cara?

Hi

We're thinking of the name Cara but I'm a bit paranoid about choosing a name from the wrong era. Do people think it's a 1970's name? Or it's never been common enough so it doesn't really have an era.

At the moment it's the only name we can both sort of agree on so thoughts much appreciated.

One of my BF's is called Cara - I really like it but hate CarLa. I don't know why !

Thunderduck · 16/04/2009 13:55

It's beautiful.

TeriHatchetJob · 16/04/2009 13:57

Lovely.

A girl at school was called Cara - I think it is very nice.

I have an aversion to the name as an old boss of mine was called Cara and was an absolute farking cow bitch from hell. I basically got pregnant so I could get out of her team!

But it's a lovely name - also Ciara

everGreensleeves · 16/04/2009 14:00

pretty

means "darling" in Italian I think

BootyShake · 16/04/2009 14:01

Mung · 16/04/2009 14:02

MammaPiggy · 16/04/2009 14:03

i like cara a lot, i think it is quite timeless actually - not dated at all imo

Pinkjenny · 16/04/2009 14:04

Really, really lovely.

MirandaG · 16/04/2009 14:04

Also means 'friend' in Irish. Lovely name, easy to spell, no annoying unwanted shortenings .

wahwahwah · 16/04/2009 14:05

I worked with someone whose little girl was Cara Mia. I really made me smile (not in a nasty way) it was so cute.

My sister teaches a girl called 'Alora'. My Italian friend almost bust a gut when I told her.

Poledra · 16/04/2009 14:07

I love it and would have used it for one of our DDs except it doesn't go with our surname.

BunnyLebowski · 16/04/2009 15:05

Beautiful!

And it roughly translates as "beloved" from Irish so that makes it even more lovely!

Poledra - me too! Would definitely have considered it for dd but our surname is McCarthy so it sounds all wrong!

rubyslippers · 16/04/2009 15:06

it is a very lovely name

SarahL2 · 16/04/2009 15:15

The only one I know was a 70s baby too but I don't think of Cara as a 70s name. I think it's lovely - simple, uncommon but not unheard of.

jellybeans · 16/04/2009 16:01

Love it.

Leannabanana · 16/04/2009 16:38

its gorgeous. on my back up list. My oldest friend from primary is called cara-jane and she is adorable and gorgeous to boot. It is a timeless name IMO.

RachieB · 16/04/2009 17:50

Cara is lovely, timeless and classic. I know a 3yo Cara

Springflower · 16/04/2009 18:13

I know two baby Cara's - think there might be a Scottish link. Like it though.

MrsBoo · 16/04/2009 18:15
