sharkyandgeorge · 07/04/2009 14:14

OP posts:
MitchyInge · 07/04/2009 14:15

Leannabanana · 07/04/2009 14:16

A-lar-na

UpInArms · 07/04/2009 14:17

a-LAR-na was my first instinct

sharkyandgeorge · 07/04/2009 14:17

I have a friend called Alanna, pronounced A-LAN-a, so on that basis I'd probably pronounce Alana A-LAR-na I think.

flowerybeanbag · 07/04/2009 14:18

Oh good lord I have no idea what that is in my post! I just typed the bit about my friend!

SpringySponge · 07/04/2009 14:18

A-lar-na. I knew a girl with that name pronounced like that; it wouldn't occur to me to say it differently.

paolosgirl · 07/04/2009 14:19

a LAR na

sharkyandgeorge · 07/04/2009 14:20

juneybean · 07/04/2009 14:21

We have one at nursery and she is "ah-lah-nuh" bear in mind we're geordies though. (not sure if that matters?)

ChocEclair · 07/04/2009 14:22

I have taught an Alana and she pronounced it A-Lar-na

Very pretty name I think!

flowerybeanbag · 07/04/2009 14:24

Sorry to hi-jack this thread. My surname is Curtis. Can anyone suggest the worst possible names (boy and girl) that I could possibly use?

My DH thinks he's being clever when he seriously wants to call a boy/girl Jamie Leigh ......

paolosgirl · 07/04/2009 14:45

Kurtis?!

lauren61 · 07/04/2009 14:49

looks like A-LARRR-NA to me, if there was double LL id prounouce it A-LAN-NAH

trixiechick · 07/04/2009 15:12

def. A - LAN - Ah
emphasis on middle syllable. Love this name. My grandmother used to call us this as an endearment. She was a native irish speaker, one of its' meanings is 'my child'. Gorgeous is on my shortlist for girls too.

trixiechick · 07/04/2009 15:14

Sorry punctuation! i didn't mean that gorgeous is on my shortlist (although there is a little girl at my school with that name, with a sister called precious!!) I meant it is a gorgeous name....

LobstersLass · 07/04/2009 15:44

I'd pronounce it like banana, but obviously starting with al, rather than ban!

smurfgirl · 07/04/2009 15:49

Ah-lar-nah
