We've had classic names, what about EXICITING or BEAUTIFUL boys names?

The classic names were nice but seemed quite dull IMO, what boys names would do you like that could be described as exciting or beautiful?

Mind you, Onan has a strange appeal. Shadrach or Abednigo anyone? Both Biblical and VERY unusual......!

UpInArms · 07/04/2009 09:45

I'm quite extreme on this (as people may have noticed!) because my brother's step son had a beautiful and exciting name and became a school refuser because it made him unhappy and embarassed.

He only went to Secondary school after we had a renaming ceremony and allowed him to choose the name that he wanted to be called. Which turned out to be Tom! His brother and sister did the same.

Before this I was a fully paid up member of the Halcyon and Sequioa club!

seeker · 07/04/2009 11:14

His brother and sister didn't choose to be called Tom, too, obviously - that would have been very confusing.....

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 07/04/2009 11:17

lol seeker...

UpInArms · 07/04/2009 11:29

Can you say what theirbeautiful names were seeker?

seeker · 07/04/2009 11:36

I can't really - they were very individual, particularly as a group of 3, and they would be easily indentifiable.

But they weren't of the 'easily changed to a rude word" or the "Ho ho you're the size of a bus but you're called Mousie - how hilarious is that" variety. I thought they were lovely and very meaningful (one of them has appeared on Mumsnet a couple of times)- until I got more involved in the children's lives and realized that they really did cause problems for them.

Sasha
Milo
Guy
Devon
Darius
Byron

IwantPeace · 07/04/2009 12:29

I love Sasha but its thought of as a girls name around here.

Devon is lovely though I'm sure DH wont go for it.

It always amuses me that people put their fingers in their ears and go "lalalalalal I'm not listening" when I talk about my real life experience of the sadness that exciting and beautiful names CAN (notice I didn't say will) cause. Happens in real life too.

UpInArms · 07/04/2009 12:45

Its hard though Seeker, to find a name that is nice but isnt run of the mill dont you think?

seeker · 07/04/2009 12:52

That doesn't mean you have to go for Sequioa thought. And, actually, waht's wrong with run of the mill? My ds is Patrick. That's pretty run of the mill, but he's 8 and has never met another one, and it has lots of shortenings to choose from.

UpInArms · 07/04/2009 13:29

I guess I'm trying to find a name which is not different but once that stands out for me, like Patrick did for you.

OrmIrian · 07/04/2009 13:35

DS#1 is Alexander. It's not all that freaky but I only know 1 other Alex of similar age. In fact of any age...

VoodooWithBellsOn · 07/04/2009 13:47

Devon is lovely.

HAve you looked for unusual baby names books? I had a great one that said the names of loads of actors, what they'd called their kids, and what all of their characters were called in the films. Now they were unusual.

Pop quiz if anyone knows what the director robert Rodruiguez's boys are called...

VoodooWithBellsOn · 07/04/2009 13:51

I always liked

Hugo, Asa, Dashiell, Hudson, Viggio

VoodooWithBellsOn · 07/04/2009 13:53

VoodooWithBellsOn · 07/04/2009 13:56

MrsGokWan · 07/04/2009 15:36

Piper
Cassius
Marcus

LetThemEatCake · 07/04/2009 17:48

Um, Devon is sandwich meat where I come from.

The nasty, processed kind

SuziSeis · 07/04/2009 20:51

I actually really like Devon and do not normally like place names

It is beautiful

OrmIrian · 07/04/2009 21:18

Devon is a county where I come from. And very nice it is too. I'm not sure I'd want my son to be associated with cream teas though.

midnightexpress · 07/04/2009 21:22

I would have gone for Raphael if I didn't live in Glasgow. I think it's lovely. Also like Gabriel and Xavier.

UpInArms · 07/04/2009 21:36

Why did living in Glasgow put you off midnight express?
