Anyone know a Coco?

My friend's sister is due her DD four weeks before me.
We were discussing names (my friend and i) when he said his sister has chosen her name. Coco.
I actually said 'shut up ' because i really thought he was joking, he is always joking. But later his oh was talking about the name too.
Is this an up and coming name that i've missed? I really don't think i have ever heard of another Coco before.

I know one and Courtney Cox and Jo Whiley's daughters are both called this.

Blushes at knowledge of celeb baby names.

And did you never watch fame!!

Littlefish · 05/04/2009 15:39

My dd is at nursery with one. I think the family is Italian, or has Italian roots.

belgo · 05/04/2009 15:39

My dh suggested this. I like it, but it's too cute to have as a real name.

pepperannie · 05/04/2009 15:41

Yes, Coco the Clown: children's parties are his speciality.

PrammyMammy · 05/04/2009 15:41

Really! Well all i could think off was Coco Mademoiselle perfume by Chanel which does make it sound beautiful, and Coco Pops which took any beauty away.
Noo, I don't think i have heard of Fame, except the song.

A my neighbours neice is a Coco and she is a cutie pie!
I really like the name.
Coco Chanel?

ItsMargotBeauregarde · 05/04/2009 15:43

My friend's friend has one. She's about 5 and a half I think. Older than Courtenay Cox#s!

All women say oooooh coco chanel.
all men say what like clown

Nancy66 · 05/04/2009 15:44

It's fine as a nickname but not a stand alone name - it wasn't Coco Chanel's actual name.

pepperannie · 05/04/2009 15:46

It's a nick name. Coco Chanel's real name was Gabrielle.
Naming after Coco Chanel is naff and aspirational, I hate naming after brand names.

PrammyMammy · 05/04/2009 15:46

I didn't even know it was a womans name, i just thought they names the perfume that. Duh.
I have really mixed thoughts on this though. It sounds lovely one minute, then mad the next. But i'm sure when i meet the baby it will suit her.

I do know a toddler called Coco and she's a beautiful little thing, but I still think it's absolutely appalling.

More of a pet's name than a child's, IMHO.

Guadalupe · 05/04/2009 15:53

I know two, one toddler and one eleven year old. I think it's quite nice. Dh thought it was ridiculous though.

Coco on Fame?

DaisyMooSteiner · 05/04/2009 16:18

Our neighbours' dog is called Coco

MorocconOil · 05/04/2009 16:20

I quite like it. Probably because I loved Fame!

'I'm gonna live forever. I'm gonna learn how to fly, High'

Love, love that song. I'm going to watch that film tonight.

ScorpiowithabigS · 05/04/2009 16:22

I know of one. I love it.

wilbur · 05/04/2009 16:23

Ds1 (8) has a Coco in his year. She is lovely and very sweet.

oysterpots · 05/04/2009 16:52

My cousin's just named her DD Coco - my mum made the clown gag, I guess you'd get used to that pretty quickly!

I love it as a name for a child, I'd think it a bit weird if I met someone my age now called Coco, at least as an actual name rather than a nn. But things will definitely be very different in 30 years time!

LetThemEatCake · 05/04/2009 17:07

nice name. Only for a dark-haired child though I think - not quite right on a blonde.

Dancer in Fame was called Coco.
And Coco Chanel well - say no more

TheLadyEvenstar · 05/04/2009 17:07

I know a Coco she is lovely,an adult and a wonderful mum

Rolf · 05/04/2009 17:25

I know a Coco short for Constance, which I like. Gives her the option of a more "grown up" name if she wants it.

Sycamoretree · 05/04/2009 17:30

We have one in our family - not one of our DC's. I really like it, but a lot of the family were a bit to start with. Now someone at work is going to call her DD Coco - it's totally one on the up....

BibiThree · 05/04/2009 17:34

DD1 was (for a short time) going to be Aiko, which we would have "shortened" to Koko iyswim?
I like it as a shortened version of a name or nickname, but I don't think of it as a stand alone name, don't know why, I just don't.

nereidesinthemist · 05/04/2009 17:36

Know a friend of a friend with a baby Coco. Apparently they regretted their naming decision, though. Sting has a daughter with the same name. I wouldn't use it for my own reasons.

Nancy66 · 05/04/2009 17:39

I can see it becoming the next Jade.
