We'd like to call our daughter Riley Grace but after mentioning it to friends & family, I'm now worried it sounds chavvy.

I know - we shouldn't be swayed by anyone else's opinion, but I don't want to saddle the poor mite with something she'll be teased for.

Help please? Is this so awful?

Grace lovely..Riley er no. sorry. IMO, of course.
Am pushing Nancy as a girls name, 2 ds here dont want any more but love the name!

hedgiemum · 31/03/2009 16:53

I feel mean saying it but I'm afraid I'm not keen on Riley. I don't think its bad enough for her to be teased about it, though you might possibly be by your loved ones, since your friends/family are already calling it chavvy

Have you got your heart set on it (in which case you need to not discuss it again with friends and family)? Or have you any other ideas?

Frobisher · 31/03/2009 17:23

No other ideas yet - just wanted something a little different as my other children have very safe, traditional names.

Riley is okay imho, but Grace is so much prettier, I don't think that they go together.

peanutbutterkid · 31/03/2009 17:26

Have you browsed this thread?

everGreensleeves · 31/03/2009 17:26

I know a little Riley, she's very lovely and suits it. But I wouldn't use it personally

Can we help you find alternatives? What 'sort' of names are you considering?

How about Rhiannon, Rhianna, Rhea, Kayleigh, Eilidh )pronounced Ayley)

VeryAnnieMary · 31/03/2009 17:28

It's not what I would choose but I am sure that if you like it and use it, everyone will grow to love it.

MrsMattie · 31/03/2009 17:29

No to Riley.

artichokes · 31/03/2009 17:32

Riley is v American. I don't like it.

Runoutofideas · 31/03/2009 17:47

I would assume Riley was a boy.

hedgiemum · 31/03/2009 17:54

Say the other kind of names you like and I'll try to come up with ideas. I'm pg with a boy, and girls are so much more fun to name imo!

Thunderduck · 31/03/2009 21:06

No,please don't.

LynetteScavo · 31/03/2009 21:10

So you haven't heard of the chain of snooker clubs called Riley's then?

MumOfBaby · 31/03/2009 21:15

What about Raegan Grace?

Or Grace Riley?

Although, I think you should call your child what YOU want. Sod what anyone else thinks- they can name their own kids!

Sidge · 31/03/2009 21:18

Riley is quite an ugly name for a girl IMO - very masculine and 'hard'.

Huge contrast with Grace which is very soft and pretty.

Frobisher · 31/03/2009 21:30

Sorry Thunderduck, I don't follow your comment - please don't what?

pandavark · 31/03/2009 21:36

riley grace is a nice name if you like it. what matters most is your opinion on it, since its your baby, not anyone else's. i wouldn't use it myself BUT i dont think its chavvy and i dont think she'd be slagged off because of it.

tiggerlovestobounce · 31/03/2009 22:09

I dont like Riley, IMO it is a bit masculine. I do like mumofbabys suggestion of Reagan.

ScottishThistle · 31/03/2009 22:23

I quite like it,

How about Reya, Reyna?

Thunderduck · 31/03/2009 22:25

I don't like it I'm afraid.

Nancy66 · 31/03/2009 22:47

Have to agree with your friends and family on this one...

sleeplessinstretford · 31/03/2009 23:41

i have some friends with a little girl called Raili (it's a scandi name pronounced Riley) I erm raili like it-they aren't chavs-he's a writer and she' a solicitor- i like it-do ou have irish roots?

IwishIwereonthebeach · 01/04/2009 08:59

Although I don't think Riley 'goes' with Grace, that doesn't matter because its not as if she'll go round being known as Riley Grace. The name is growing on me- go for it!!

BabyBaby123 · 01/04/2009 09:45

it is chavvy, sorry

Frobisher · 01/04/2009 18:56

Thanks for your input everyone and yes, I do have Irish roots. I don't consider us to be at all chavvy & still quite like this name. We'll have a think on it.
