Ellie - what do you think?

Dh is set on Ellie for this baby.
Would you think this was a nickname or can it be used on its own?
What do you think of it as a name and is it dated even?
Sorry lots of questions.

I like it and think short names are fine in their own right. Don't think it is dated but it is quite common (although think Ella is more popular maybe and Evie/Eva)

The two I know are Eleanor and Ellie-Mae.

Ellie-Mae was going to be just Ellie with Mae as a middle name but in the end they went for Ellie-Mae to stop people assuming her full name was Eleanor.

I'm not 100% keen on just Ellie myself but it's very popular so maybe it's just me

It is current but v popular. DD will be one of several in her year at school.

It is a name in it's own right. You really don't seem keen.

my DS1's girlfriend is called this. she is smart and beautiful so i think of it as a genuinely lovely name

leakR I'm just dubious it is a real name. Dh insists it is. I wondered about the dated aspect as I remember encountering lots a few years ago, but not so many recently.

What do you think of Eleanor? Then you can shorten it and will give dd another choice when she's older.

It probably was more popular a few years ago.

I always think of Ellie the Elephant, sorry. It also sounds like half a proper name.

In my dd's year at school there will be 5, yes 5 Eleanor/Ellie/Ella's. There are only 20 children in the year, so 1/4 of the children are called Eleanor/Ellie/Ella!

dd1 is Ellie and here was another at preschool but shes gone to primary now. I love it for dd1 its very 'her' but the variations are common eg Ella, Elenor, Elouise, Evie, Eva and Ava

It is comon among the 5-10 ish age bracket but may not be so popular now though. I prefer Ella or Eleanor personally.

I know only one Ellie, short for Eleanor.
I don't like short names on their own, feels like you're depriving the child of something (imho).

I know lots of little Ellies. I think they're mostly Eleanors, which I like. Ella is also v popular, but isn't my cup of tea.
