cyteen - funnily enough those are the two names that DH hasn't agreed to yet

i salute your optimism.

Wheelybug · 08/03/2009 12:24

Hi cece - I agree boys names are soooo difficult. I have 5 days to go till due date and we don't have any names agreed really - i think we probably have a girl's name but I'm dithering still. With boys name DH said yesterday he didn't like any boys' names so I could choose ...... until I started coming up with my suggestions !

I think I like Gregory/Greg. I love your girls names too - particularly Anna, I have one . Also love Esther but I have a bit of a lisp and can't say it properly so have disgarded it sadly!

cece · 08/03/2009 12:42

wheelybug five days! Wow. I have a similar pronounciation problem with Thea. Not too good with my th sound... so that is putting me off a bit.

cece what about Sidney?!? loving the old man chic of it!

MsBeauregarde · 08/03/2009 21:19

Vaughan/Vaughn -ok, sounds a bit nasalish
Orson - don't hate it.
Verne - Sounds weak. Again, nasalish.
Edward - Lovely. Popular but lovely. I also like Teddy.
Samuel - Lovely. In the same style I like Daniel. I prefer Daniel.
Gregory - Lovely. Greg is unusual but would fit in with the Bens and Maxes perfectly. Gregory is lovely too, classic but quirky and less pretentious than Barnaby! In that style I like Leo, Dominic, Thaddeus 'posh catholic names'
Monty - I like it, but not as a nn for Montague. Unless Montague is a family name.
Mungo - Ok. I like Bruno, Hugo and Roscoe more though. Actually, I'm lying, I'm trying to be in with the mungo-lovers. I don't like that one.
Edgar - Ok but very dainty. Edward is stronger.
Edmund - Ok, I like this one, but again, it's like a daintier version of Edward. Redmond is cool though.

I also like Richie short for Richard and Frederick.

From your list my favourite is definitely Gregory. It is strong, solid and classic but I only know a couple.

MsBeauregarde · 08/03/2009 21:20

ps, Saul instead of Paul
Marcus instead of Mark.

cece · 08/03/2009 21:37

DH prefers Marcus to Mark Not sure I like it enough to use it...

As for Sidney, that is a very sore subject. We were all set to cal DS Sidney till MIL found out and put DH off of it about 2 months before I had him {sad] I still think he looks like a Sid..

This time I have not discussed baby names with her, despite her trying several times to bring up the subject!

OK I do have another one to add to my list

Andrew

Really like it but would hate it to be shortened to Andy. It will be though won't it?

Babbity · 08/03/2009 21:38

my mother hated all our choices but ultimately she had her chance and I didn't think much of her choices

Sidney is FAB and am delighted you like one of my suggestions !!

you're just right not to discuss names with anyone other than DH, and us of course!

Andrew is ok - no getting away from Andy though, what about the nn Drew

MsBeauregarde · 08/03/2009 21:45

Cece, what about Julius? Mind you, I have been told before that I should have money for school fees with my taste in names.

cece · 08/03/2009 21:52

Not sure about either Julius or Drew - not realy us I think.

Baby Gregory is gorgeous

pointydog · 08/03/2009 22:06

Edward - well, I really like Ed/Eddie

Samule - sam's good

That's it

pointydog · 08/03/2009 22:07

Ed - fantastic

dizzydixies · 08/03/2009 22:13

me again

have you considered

Arthur nn Art
Walter
Wilfred

nooka · 08/03/2009 22:51

My dad is Marius if you are thinking about Marcus. I like Darius too. Richard is a really nice name that's not used much anymore. We were going to call ds2 Richard Ezra (we liked Ezra but thought it might be difficult to carry off). Have since met a couple of cool Ritchies. Good name for a whizzing around type boy I think. What about Benedict if you like Gregory? or Digby if you like something a bit different.

jellybeans · 08/03/2009 23:57

cece · 10/03/2009 19:17

Thanks for all of the comments.

Looks like we have Edward (Ed) on the short list then! LOL
Possibly Mark and maybe Tom...

Still we have another couple of months yet to think of some other names! LOL In any case it may all be in vain, as it might be a girl.

Springhassprung · 11/03/2009 14:43

Really like Hector and Edward.

Josiepie · 11/03/2009 18:15

Samuel and Edward - even when they're shortened (Sam,Ed, Ted, Eddy) they're still lovely.

changer22 · 11/03/2009 18:21

I love Edgar. It was going to be one of the names of my twin DSs except that I haven't had twin DSs! The other twin would have been Magnus.

I like Edward and Gregory too.
