Roscoe.

posh but not pretentious
unusual but not wtf
quirky like 0 and 0
Scottish

Lysander is nice but a bit poetic. I see his long fingers and think how beautiful they must look playing the piano. I bet he always carries foolscap and a biro around, to jot down his thoughts.

Campbell is ok. Bit too soupy for me! sorry. I don't like Erin for the same reason.

If not Roscoe, then Bruce (after Parry not springsteen) and Donald or Victor. Victor not Scottish, but it has a lot of good attitute. Not bad attitude!

Did you go off Grey short for Gregor?

frazz

I'm lurking on several name threads as I have no idea at the moment. I love Hector but DH sneered, he likes Oliver but I'm not sure......we haven't even discussed girls names (took us 4 days to name DD2 so our record isn't good).

dizzydixies · 09/03/2009 16:40

no, I HAVE it, can't think why I didn't think of it before

I met a wee boy called Clyde and he was FABULOUS

there you go, right then, who's next?!?

LuLuBai · 09/03/2009 17:49

Liffey - Roscoe is a great suggestion. Also loving Hamish, Hector and Bruce (would agree that the racing car has ruined Rory which is a great shame). How about Sholto. Another fab and underused Scottish name.

I can't get any of those 'o' ending names past DH. He had quite liked Jago but some friends got their first and now he won't even go for Hugo, let alone Milo, Cosmo, Orlando, Mungo or any of my other more outlandish suggestions. He quite likes Arlo but the fact that Natasha Kaplinsky has already used it puts him off.

MsBeauregarde · 09/03/2009 18:30

Your sur name must be Von Sleath?

MsBeauregarde · 09/03/2009 18:32

Thanks lulubai! quick name change here but don't say my name. I need a name-change.

What about Arnaud? that has the style of an 'o' name but as it actually ends in aud it is not an o name. Arnaud and P**a would sound good!

Grumpy Ssssshhh , whispers [I'm loving Wolfgang too]
but
I texted a friend this afternoon saying Wolfgang? and after a bit she texted back very evasively saying 'Oh, do you like that?' - which I took to mean 'I think it's bloody awful'.
Hmmmm
but then her kids names are all in the top 20 (if not even now the top 10) so maybe we have opposite taste [miaow]
Oh god, why does this have to be so hard.
See, I also like Sholto. But it sort of makes me think of a fat old man at the same time, which isn't good.
Maybe I could get away with Wolfgang - my reasoning being that my second choice girls name (after Annabel) was Claudia - and that's German isn't it - and nobody said I couldn't use that cos I'm not German. Soooooo?

[confused and trying to justify self emoticon]

frazzledoldbag · 09/03/2009 19:41

oh sorry no idea how I managed to do that twice. Oops.

frazzledoldbag · 09/03/2009 19:42

Grumpy Oliver is quite nice, but not quite on a par with Hector and Wolfgang I'd say.

MsBeauregarde · 09/03/2009 19:49

What about Claudius?! Latin? ROman!

You know, after Chloe and EMily a Claudius would be omg, what happened there? but after your girls' names people aren't going to be expecting James or Jack are they!

dizzydixies · 09/03/2009 19:58

was that a 'no' to Clyde then

frazzledoldbag · 09/03/2009 20:05

sorry dizzy but yes, that was a no
Clyde would just be too Glasgow-esque for DH I think. He's a picky so-and-so. (although I'm sure you'll have worked that one out already)
Duh MsB hadn't worked out who you were but I know now. And you're right James and Jack aren't on any of our lists!

frazzledoldbag · 09/03/2009 20:07

(by way of explanation we aren't on the Glasgow side, we're on that other side of Scotland. And DH has already dismissed Calvin, which I did like quite a lot).

dizzydixies · 09/03/2009 20:08

Tay??!!!!??

frazzledoldbag · 09/03/2009 20:13

ha ha
no

rolandbrowning · 09/03/2009 20:15

There's a great song called Roscoe by Midlake. Love the name.

Nairn
Innes
Rennie
Corin
Callan

Nyx · 09/03/2009 20:40

I think Harland would be shortened to Harley. I love Callan (if dd had been a ds that was on the shortlist)

First time I've posted on a 'name' thread btw, am actually blushing here (must be shy!)

Fimbo · 09/03/2009 20:46

SniffyHock · 09/03/2009 20:51

What do you think of Howard? I am really struggling for a boy's name and that popped out of a book at me yesterday.

MsBeauregarde · 09/03/2009 21:05

I like Howard. HOwie too.

SniffyHock · 09/03/2009 21:09

That's what I was thinking - Howie for short

dizzydixies · 09/03/2009 21:22

sniffy I can't say I'm keen on Howard but loving Howie

frazzledoldbag · 09/03/2009 22:05

Nah, not Howard. Makes me think of Howards Way (am I showing my age now?)
I like Nairn from dizzies list.
But guess what, DH doesn't.
He only likes Hamish and Rory. To which I say 'NO'.
There must be something out there we can agree on. Surely?

dizzydixies · 09/03/2009 22:08

Ronnie
Struan
Dougal
