What image does the name Annabel have nowadays? Are there lots of little Annabels running around?

I don't know any Annabels personally but I love the name.

singyswife · 06/03/2009 12:11

I cant say I know any either but it is a lovely name.

Lizzylou · 06/03/2009 12:11

I know of only one, in DS1's reception class

It is a beautiful name

randomname · 06/03/2009 12:40

I know one who is 8, lovely name.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 06/03/2009 12:41

it's a lovely lovely name

MrsMattie · 06/03/2009 12:42

I know one baby called Annabel and several adult women. I think it is going to become increasingly popular. Personally, I'm not keen. It sounds pretty-ish, but still has Sloaney, horsey connotations for me.

MrsJoeMcIntyre · 06/03/2009 12:43

I know one who is 18mo.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 06/03/2009 12:44

Sloaney and horsey

annasmami · 06/03/2009 12:53

It's my dd's name and I (obviously) love it .

MrsMattie, I'm interested what you mean with 'Sloaney' and 'horsey'? Is it a bad connotation? I'm not from the UK originally and really don't understand...

(But then, you recently commented that you felt my ds's name was posh, so if that's what you mean, its ok - I like poshness )

ForeverOptimistic · 06/03/2009 12:59

It is very very popular around here. It is a lovely name and I think it has lost its sloaney and horsey connotations.

I don't think it is posh. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being uber posh) I would say it is 6.5.

MrsMattie · 06/03/2009 14:12

Yes, posh!@annasmami

It is traditionally a posh name in the UK, but is definitely gaining more popularity.

Nancy66 · 06/03/2009 14:25

I like the name - was always traditionally very posh and aristo in a Camilla type way but becoming a bit more middle class now.

frazzledoldbag · 06/03/2009 14:38

Love Annabel. Very pretty. In fact it was my girls name choice (but am having a boy). I know of one Annabel age 5, and another baby with Annabel as her middle name so NO, I don't think it's common really (yet). Not like Isabel, Isabella anyway. My worry is that it may be on the up, but really who can predict?

OrmIrian · 06/03/2009 14:39

I don't know. Who is she?

snackattack · 06/03/2009 14:45

Really lovely but I don't know any.

llareggub · 06/03/2009 14:48

Annabel was on our list too. [waves at frazzledoldbag]

It is definitely off our list now because we are having a boy. I don't know any little Annabels running around, and for that matter, I don't know any older ones either...

Hulababy · 06/03/2009 15:48

There is one Annabel in DD's school (90 girls).

Pretty name. Think it is quite popular in terms of top 100 names.

katz · 06/03/2009 15:56

DD2 was nearly Annabel however we went for Annalise instead.

RachieB · 06/03/2009 17:12

Is it posh?!

I don't know of any and am not particularly keen

Prefer Isabel(la)

Jaquelinehyde · 06/03/2009 17:16

Annabelle/Annabella and Isabelle/Isabella are my top two girls names. Both really beautiful and I love that it can be shortened to Belle.

loler · 06/03/2009 17:18

I know 2 - 6 yrs and 2yrs - both are lovely and I like the name.

Tamarto · 06/03/2009 17:19

I like it, but remember there is a doll called baby annabelle.

LiffeyAndFriends · 07/03/2009 16:35

I like it. It's rising I'd guess. Have seen it in the birth announcements in the times a few times.

I know 2 Annabels my own age funnily enough though. It is a name that is there, but never goes away completely and so will never come back with a bang ifywim. I prefer it to Isabel and to Anna. Got a bit more to it.

modernart · 07/03/2009 16:39

I've got a 17 year old one. She has always been the only one at her different schools.

LiffeyAndFriends · 07/03/2009 16:44

Camilla's sister is Annabel, Jemima Goldsmith's mum . I think it's a name that won't date.

I love names like Dulcie and Polly mind you!
