ok, 2 of my friends in North America have recently called their children this.

One is a boy.

One is a girl.

What do y'all think of it?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
georgiemum · 03/03/2009 13:33

oh dear.

mrsruffallo · 03/03/2009 13:33

Fucking love it

nickytwotimes · 03/03/2009 13:33

Fine in North America. Awful here.

elsiepiddock · 03/03/2009 13:33

About as daft as me calling my ds Washington.

LilianGish · 03/03/2009 13:35

No worse than Paris, Sienna, Brittany, Brooklyn, India ...

georgiemum · 03/03/2009 13:39

No - I think it is worse. Paris (city) was named after Paris (greek myth).

ilovegreenbeans · 03/03/2009 13:41

Oh dear is what I thought too.

Especially for the girl. I think the boy can get away with it just about.

Do you really think it's ok for a girl?

It's a bit 'film star names baby.......' isn't it? Fine for Ben Affleck or JLo or someone but might be a bit odd if you're just a 'normal' person. It's not offensive at all though, just slightly 'wannabee' I'd say.

lotspot · 03/03/2009 22:12

i'd agree with a bit 'wanabe'

its also the name of a female charcter in an american programme on disney channel. the character is a ditzy hotel heiress and quite clearly just a joke based on paris hilton (well not obvious to an 8yo but you know what i mean )

MrsMattie · 03/03/2009 22:13

I know a woman from New York called London. Very odd.

EyeballsintheSky · 03/03/2009 22:14

How would you nn it? Lonny? Donny? Londy?

snickersnack · 03/03/2009 22:14

I knew a London when I was younger. London Kim. His parents were Korean, he was born here. Wouldn't use it myself, but it suited him....

chipmonkey · 03/03/2009 23:11

The Suite Life of Zach and Cody.

HungryPony · 03/03/2009 23:13

The they can phone people up and go

"It's London calling..."

PMSL!!!!!

MrsMerryHenry · 03/03/2009 23:13

Hilarious. Your friends are mad.

chaya5738 · 04/03/2009 11:00

No worse than calling your child Siena or Brooklyn, which I hear all the time.

LuLuBai · 04/03/2009 11:36

LOL @ HungryPony.

At least Sienna and Paris are pretty sounding. London is quite heavy sounding.

(Personally I still can't get my head round Florence though).

georgiemum · 04/03/2009 11:40

I wonder how they pronounce it. Loh-n-dohn (the Queen), Larn-darn (Pearly Queen), Lun-dun (everyone else). I also wonder about the middle names.

bigTillyMint · 04/03/2009 11:44

LOL, maybe middle names could be like Islington or Clapham, or Peckham

georgiemum · 04/03/2009 11:46

Jellied-eels
'acney

Nancy66 · 04/03/2009 11:52

Very naff and very American - Sarah Palin's kid is called Bristol. Awful.

georgiemum · 04/03/2009 11:55

Boy or girl? Tell me it's not a girl.

kittywise · 04/03/2009 11:56

bollocks

georgiemum · 04/03/2009 11:57

Is that another name?

kittywise · 04/03/2009 12:02

it's a better one
