Eddison... (Eddie)

I think it's really cool.... I've never heard of it before but my friend (baby's mum) told me it's an old english name and she got it from a website and (sure enough) it's on the website...

I think it's lovely... but my other friend (who was also there when she told us the name) thinks it's awful..

So, votes please!

It's a surname.

It's not normal in English to confuse Christian names and surnames unless you are a Yank OR a member of the gentry bestowing a surname as a middle in the hope that your child will bag an inheritance from the maternal line or A. N. Other rich relative.

In Wales, male names have been used as first or surnames due to the ancient system of naming a son after his father - so Ifan ap Llewellyn would be the son of Llewellyn, and you eventually end up with today's Evan Davies because a long time ago one of his great-great-great grandads was called Dafydd.

It's OK. Passable. Wouldn't choose it but am not repulsed by it!

I think Edward sounds far nicer. For names-that-Eddie-could-be-diminutive-for-which-aren't-Edward though, I prefer Edwin and Edgar, the latter in particular.

Mmnn, I like it. But might be more of a dog's name

TheGreatScootini · 28/02/2009 08:56

I dont mind it.Didnt Thomas Eddison invent the light bulb or something? You might end up with a science genius!

Does nobody have the http://www.amazon.co.uk/LeapFrog-46000-Leapfrog-Alphabet-Pal/dp/B00005OWEP Leapfrog Alphabet Caterpillar

"Hello I'm Edison. Let's sing along". Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Errr this alphabet caterpillar

Am crap at links. Whatever you do don't get one. Unless of course you are tempted to call your actual child Edison. Then get one to make you see the error of your ways.

It may actually be a perfectly nice name, but after hearing that cheery little voice say "Hello I'm Edison" about six squillion times I would probably throttle someone who really had the name (have tried to throttle the caterpillar - didn't work)
