Campbell? (We are in Scotland, and don't say soup)

Expecting DC3 (confirmed as a boy by amnio). Toyed with a selection of names including:
Dougray (which everyone seems to hate)
Hamish
Munro
Bay
Rory / Ruari
but I like Campbell the best.
What do you ladies think?

Oh and Dh prefers Hamish (which makes me think of a man in a kilt with ginger hair and a sporan) and also Rory. Campbell would be his 3rd choice.
Any other options that we might like but haven't thought of yet?
Thanks in advance for your kind, constructive comments

Rory from your list - and prefer Cameron to Campbell. Bay is pretty bad.

brimfull · 23/02/2009 21:44

soup

dizzydixies · 23/02/2009 21:45

Hector?

brimfull · 23/02/2009 21:45

sorry

I prefer hamish or rory

snice · 23/02/2009 21:45

Actually I like Hector better than any on your list - sorry.

sonniebonnie · 23/02/2009 21:45

I like Hamish, Munro, Ruari/Rory and Campbell but don't really like Bay.

thehappyprince · 23/02/2009 21:45

Oh, quite like dougray actually, like the film star. Maybe Murray, Fraser, Finlay, Alistair (keeping the scottish theme)

seb1 · 23/02/2009 21:45

Fraser, Lewis, Euan

trixymalixy · 23/02/2009 21:46

I like Ruari and Campbell.

ja9 · 23/02/2009 21:47

ja9 · 23/02/2009 21:48

I like

Lachlan/Lochlan
Lewis
Cameron
Alisdair

Some of your names do seem a bit contrived to be honest...although Hamish is nice when shortened to Mish and I like Rory

Campbell is a surname

I am being constructive honest!

DanJARMouse · 23/02/2009 21:49

Campbell is fab.... being of scottish roots I love it.

Ruari is lovely too.

Another common one from where my grandparents live is Mackay - yes its a surname but a lot of people have started using it as first name.

Scott is also another common one, along with Craig and Sinclair. Not too sure on Sinclair myself.

brimfull · 23/02/2009 21:51

My db's name is Crawford
He loves it but has grown up and lived in Canada all his life where it is v unusual

Sinclair - nope
DH likes Lachlan / Lochlan but I don't have a Scottish accent so it sounds a bit silly from me
Not sure about mackay - makes me think of the shop.
There are loads of Camerons round here so will avoid that. And a friend just had a baby Alistair so that's a no too.

Am not revealing our surname but it does sound solid and is a scottish name so sounds good with Campbell.

Have friends with a baby lachan, they call him lachy (pronounced locky) and sounds lovely, v. cute. Am aware that I may put you off any name I remotely like though, given that I have considered Phyllis for a girl

pointydog · 23/02/2009 21:58

not keen on surnames as forenames.

Like Rory/Ruari(dh)

shonaspurtle · 23/02/2009 21:58

I like Hamish, Rory/Ruari

Also like Euan, Alexander (Sandy), Angus, Duncan, Gordon, Fraser

overqualified · 23/02/2009 21:58

You seem to have your heart set so I wont reveal the Scottish saying...

"never trust a Campbell an inch above your knee...."

pointydog · 23/02/2009 21:59

oh yes, I do like Sandy (Alexander)

frazzledoldbag · 23/02/2009 22:00

I do like Lachlan (Lachy/Lochy) thehappyprince but it's just the scottish accent thing that gets me. I think I'd feel like I was doing a fake accent when saying it [paranoid, moi?]
Maybe I'll go upstairs and practice by myself in the bath and see how silly (or not) I feel.
Do you know, I can feel it growing on me..............
DH would be fine though, he's very Scottish.
