Expecting DC3 (confirmed as a boy by amnio). Toyed with a selection of names including:
Dougray (which everyone seems to hate)
Hamish
Munro
Bay
Rory / Ruari
but I like Campbell the best.
What do you ladies think?

Ceolas · 23/02/2009 22:01

Ruairidh or Hamish.

Not Dougray. Campbell is a surname.

frazzledoldbag · 23/02/2009 22:03

And I do like Alexander but recently read it's in the top 5 names in Scotland or something equally awful (IMO). My other 2 DC's have names not in the top 50 so wouldn't want to go into top 5 with this one (why, why? I don't know - just don't).
Plus I hate Sandy as a shortening (we used to have a chiahuahua called that when I was a child so couldn't deal with that).

And I do know a ghastly, ghastly very posh woman with a troupe of boys one of whom is called Lochy and she sort of makes me recoil from any of her kids names (can't remember them all but think another is called Murray, which also puts me off that).
Does this make me irrational? Or just quite pg?

So what? This bugs me...names are in the top 5 because they are lovely names. And every child is different...your Alexander is a different kettle of fish to someone else's... grump!

frazzledoldbag · 23/02/2009 22:06

[changes mind suddenly and irrationally]
but I quite like Murray........but our surname begins with M too......mmmmmmm,mmmmmmm

Aw, thanks frazzled, don't feel quite so hopeless! Really like Campbell though - a good solid name.

CharleeInChains · 23/02/2009 22:06

I love Hamish but i have a good frined called Hamish so im a bit bias!

I also lurve Rory again though i have a friend..........

SweetTea · 23/02/2009 22:07

Sorry but what would the poor boy be called for short, Camp? Bell? I can see the tears in the playground now.

I like Dougray.

jomole · 23/02/2009 22:08

what about Alexander shortened to Zander?

overqualified · 23/02/2009 22:08

I mean I am the grumpy one of course ...I love traditional names, the men in my family all have traditional names and it does not matter one jot to me what a league table says...

sweetkitty · 23/02/2009 22:09

There's loads of wee boys I know being born and being given surnames as first names, one trend seems to be to give the mother's surname as the son's first name IYSWIM, not sure what to think of that, so far have heard of

Cameron
Carrick
Blair
Lochlan
Stuart
Grant
Fraser
Finlay
Nairn
Lewis
Kintyre
Scott
Murray

shonaspurtle · 23/02/2009 22:09

Murray Mills - no

Murray McKay - ok

Murray Montgomery - ok

..so it depends on the surname.

ja9 · 23/02/2009 22:09

Muir

maretta · 23/02/2009 22:09

I used to know a Campbell.
I think it's a good choice.

frazzledoldbag · 23/02/2009 22:09

overqualified sorry to bug you but as a schoolgirl I was one of 6 girls with the same name all the way through my senior school class (of about 30 girls). That used to bug me so I try to avoid afflicting the same fate on my kids.
I do like some names in the top 10 but TBH do also get bored of hearing them all the time, over and over at nursery etc.
Hence the attempt to find something a bit less popular (although you may argue that = a bit less nice)?

overqualified · 23/02/2009 22:10

Why would be a popular name be AWFUL for your son as you put it...

call your son Cock a leekie for all I care...

I really am quite cross and I am OFF

frazzledoldbag · 23/02/2009 22:11

Am off to the bath now to repeat names out loud in a fake scottish accent to see how I get on. Will let you know.........

frazzledoldbag · 23/02/2009 22:13

over think we crossed posts there.....you seem to be very cross with me (and interestingly so is my DH this evening - apparenly I've parked the car wrongly in the drive????? how, how?) so I think I'll just put a bag on my head and go now too.
Sorry to all I may have offended and may offend in the future.

weepootle · 23/02/2009 22:34

PlumBumMum · 23/02/2009 22:38
