Expecting DC3 (confirmed as a boy by amnio). Toyed with a selection of names including:
Dougray (which everyone seems to hate)
Hamish
Munro
Bay
Rory / Ruari
but I like Campbell the best.
What do you ladies think?

What about Murdo as opposed to Munro? My fav from your list though is Ruari.

minxi · 24/02/2009 13:31

I have a Campbell and he's soooo cute, we shorten his name to Cambie / Cambi C but he likes to be called Campbell. I am expecting DC3 in a few weeks and have no idea what to call it - but like Lewis Lachlan or Jack for a boy and for girl have no idea..Other child is DS too!

frazzledoldbag · 24/02/2009 13:40

I like Murdo but there is one in close family so no.
Gone off Lochy now - sounds silly in my head.
Struan is nice but know a few and a friend has 'reserved' it for her future baby (??)
See, I do like Ruari too but have looked at the name lists and there are about 6 spellings of it and I can't spell it at all!
confused.............

Do consider Harrison which is what dd2 would have been called...love it!

Also love Angus, but dh wouldn't consider it.

Not keen on names that no one can spell.

Murdo?

Fimbo · 24/02/2009 13:50

Campbell is a fab fab fab name.

I would have had it for my ds but we have a "c" surname.

I also like Struan and Ross.

There was a Scottish electricity advert a good few years ago featuring a cartoon couple and they were called Lachlan and Lorna.

YesSirICanBoogie · 24/02/2009 13:56

I'm watching this with interest. We're expecting in May and suspect it's a boy but have no boys names other than DH's preferred choice of Hector which I'm not sure about and my choice of Angus which DH isn't sure about. We have a Mac surname so Scottish names sound best. Some of the other names in the family we've rejected on the grounds that they've been used already are -

Murray
Finlay
Rory
Conor (not Scottish but Celtic names work too)
Donald
Calum
Euan
Lewis
Iain
Carrick
Angus (but still hoping)
Ali
James
Hamish
Rhuaridh ( think this spelling is correct)

TartanKnickers · 24/02/2009 13:56

Great name but I am biased (it's my maiden name)and all of my kids have Campbell as one of their middle names.

The Campbell I know who has it as a christian name is sometimes known as Cammy.

Fimbo · 24/02/2009 13:58

My old boss (in Scotland) was called Johnston

justneedsomesleep · 24/02/2009 13:58

If not Dougray, how about Douglas?

Also to consider -
Andrew
Fraser
Angus
Alastair/Alasdair/Alistair
Cameron
Ewan/Euan
Murray
Greg/Greig/Gregory/ Gregor
Adair
Arran/Aaron
Alaexander
Hugh

Anyone suggested Mungo? Great name.

frazzledoldbag · 24/02/2009 14:12

I like Mungo actually but DH says no.
And as I said earlier we have a very close relative (also a child) called Murdo so it's a bit similar I think.

really don't like mungo

although a taught a mungo once and he was a lovely boy...

PottyCock · 24/02/2009 22:15

sholto?

LunarSea · 24/02/2009 23:04

Angus? Duncan? Friends in Scotland have a baby Robbie.

EsmeWeatherwax · 24/02/2009 23:11

I love the name Campbell, but my favourite uncle is a Campbell. I like Hamish too, and Ruari. Not Bay or Munro though, just too surname-y.

frazzledoldbag · 25/02/2009 09:06

Thanks for all the suggestions but am still stuck.
DD announced last night that she wants to call it Nairn. Which I quite like but DH doesn't. Plus I've never been to Nairn (the place) but it seems that there are two boys at school called it so it's obviously gaining popularity round here.
It would be nice to have a name we could all agree on..................
Shortlist is still sitting at
Campbell
Nairn
Ruari
Hamish
Murray / Munro / Lachlan but not sure of these now

Any other suggestions out there???

FlyMeToDunoon · 25/02/2009 09:23

Met a baby boy called Mackenzie in Tonbridge[deepest England] the other day and thought that was a great name.
Hamish yes.
Rory no
campbell hmmm

frazzledoldbag · 25/02/2009 09:50

isn't Mackenzie what JK Rowling called her daughter a few years ago? Not keen, sorry.
I did like Hamish until my DH said 'and we can call him Hammy for short'. Ugh, no we can't. Sounds gross.

Lysander, anyone?

OP posts:
nailpolish · 25/02/2009 09:51

so that is a big fat NO then IMO

lysander - no

frazzledoldbag · 25/02/2009 10:08
