Expecting DC3 (confirmed as a boy by amnio). Toyed with a selection of names including:
Dougray (which everyone seems to hate)
Hamish
Munro
Bay
Rory / Ruari
but I like Campbell the best.
What do you ladies think?

lawrence is really cool

frazzledoldbag · 26/02/2009 14:12

nailpolish - the problem with having a big family and friends with 3+ kids each is lots of names gets used up (several times over) - so most of your list are out of bounds I feel. As is Murdo, Euan, Struan, Alistair, Cameron, Brodie, Marcus and several others that I liked.

Have added Lawrence to my list to put to DH later on. Thanks for that one Mme Will let you know what HE thinks.

Nailpolish, do you adopt the accent of the country from which ever name originates when you say the name?
I wasn't trying to be nasty or anything.
I guess I can understand that in Scotland saying Lachlan as Lock-lan would raise a few eyebrows though.

MmeLindt · 26/02/2009 14:17

Good thing I have so many Scottish uncles

nailpolish · 26/02/2009 14:20

its not an accent - its a pronunciation

Bubbaluv · 26/02/2009 14:27

If someone is called Ricardo, I don't roll my rrrrs just because that's how they say it in Spain. They say it like that becuase in Spain they roll their rrrs. In Scotland they pronounce the ch sound with a bit of a throaty, but I'm not going to start doing that becuase I'm saying a name that has a Scottish heritage.
We'll just have to agree to disagree on that one.

dizzydixies · 26/02/2009 18:37

has anyone suggested Atholl or Kinnear or Irvine?

frazzledoldbag · 27/02/2009 08:23

Thanks dizzy but I have a friend with boys called atholl and Irvine so that's not possible. Not keen on Kinnear I'm afraid.
Will just have to keep thinking.............

argyll or Aaron?

I'm quite liking Heath at the minute, could you claim that as Scottish?!?!?!

dizzydixies · 27/02/2009 10:47

Brae instead of Bay?

dizzydixies · 27/02/2009 10:48

Ellis?

frazzledoldbag · 27/02/2009 13:39

I quite like Heath actually.......but were planning to use Keith as one of the middle names (family name). Not sure how that would work. But I do like it. Another one for the short long list.
A friend has a daughter called Ellis - so that's a no. And Aaron - no, I know too many.

I agree with nailpolish about the 'ch' in Lachlan - don't go for it if you can't say it
I like Innes - if I had another DS (which I won't!) I think that's what I'd go for. I also like Ross but DH said no as it's too similar to his name.
Also liked:
Alexander (many variations of nn)
Gregor
Cameron

Love Campbell and Hamish. We called my bump Hamish fo 9 months (it turned into an Iona though!)

Wouldn't go for Dougray though (I once googled Dougray Scott & 'Dougray' was the surname of his French grandmother).

Hubbie Scottish & aswell as Iona, we have a 'Ewan' and a 'Louie' (not so Scottish)

LackaDAISYcal · 28/02/2009 17:15

I know a Campbell. He is in his seventies now though, but I always though it sounded very dignified.

Lots of surnames as first names in Scotland as it was a tradition for the first born son to have the mother's maiden name as a given name.....it's why there are lots of Frasers, Camerons, Scotts and Donalds etc....and probably what gave Dougray Scott the idea for his screen name!

I love Hamish and Rhuaridh though but my BF got to them first.

love campbell!
