What do you reckon to Phyllis"?

dh thinks this is an old lady name, I think is quite lovely and due a renaissance. Don't want to give a name that's too unusual or old fashioned, what do you think?

I think it sounds old fashioned, sorry - but for some reason I love Felicity!

Oh dear, will have to bow to dh's superior judgement. Though there are lots of babies with granny and grandaddy names just now....... (was actually my grans name btw)

Now, I love old fashioned names, such as Iris, Beryl, Lilian, Edith, Elvira, Agnes. However, even to me Phyllis seems a little too old lady, iyswim. Bit too early for the renaissance, I think

I think I'd be worried about nicknames. I know of a lady called Phyllis who got nicknamed 'Syph' (not by me!). Horrid I know, but you did ask, so I thought that I'd better point out a pitfall.

makes me think of the drippy little sister in the Railway children. Also had an Auntie Phyl, and even tho she was quite cool, hasn't made me warm to the name.

Phyllida is perhaps a bit "posh" but similar?

I love the name Phyllis!

It sounds a bit floppy and wet. All those weak sounds together with no leavening of hard consonants. And the drippy one in the Railway Children would put me right off.
