Has Kevin surpassed naffness to enter a new era of acceptability?

I would not use the name personally, but it seems to me that a whole new raft of names have come to the fore these days, making names such as Kevin (Gary, Barry, Lee etc) seem almost quasi-respectable.

What do you think? Maybe it still needs a few more years yet.

In Room at the Top (set in about 1960) the rich classy girl the hero ended up married to was called Susan.

Does this mean that names didn't have the same class connotations then that they do now?

(Mind you, that Susan's family was possibly a bit noove...)

I had a boss called Alexander Kevin Clarke. He prefered to be called Kevin. Cant think why..

Not sure the boys names go with our ds's lovely Hebrew names though!
Eli, Amos and Norman/Malcolm/Graham!!!! I know dh would love a Scottish name (he is Scottish), but I ought to stick with Hebrew. And Eli, Amos and Malcolm sounds a bit bizarre! But I lurve them!

Not sure about Kevin though! I have never known one in real life and it still seems a bif naf!

One of our best friends is called Kevin, Neither DH or I drive, so he very kindly drove us to the hospital when I was in labour with DS2, he got us there just in time as he was born within the hour.

Anyway I think he was genuinely disappointed when we didn't call DS2 Kevin, but there was just no way that I could do that to my son, sorry Kev.

I know of someone who just called her baby Steve.

My (Catholic) middle school was called St Kevin's. I thought nothing of it at the time or for years afterwards but when I told my husband, casually in passing, he thought it was hilarious and asked me if he was the patron saint of shell suits.

My son is at school with a Dennis. I said " Dennnnissss? " the first time my son mentioned him! I think I said is Dennis the caretaker? Dennis is 6.
