The problem is, even if everyone on MN loves Flora, you said that your DH hates it. Is he likely to change his mind?

I like the names on both your lists, they are similar names. At least you are not going the FloraMabelViolet line and he likes names like KarrenTroydenKaerrylei etc.

Charlotte Rose
Matilda Rose
Martha Catherine

Agree with MmeLindt. Your dh agreeing is rather vital.

You both have Violet and Mabel on your lists, both nice names.

PuppyMonkey · 23/02/2009 08:40

I read somewhere recently that you can't get margarine in the UK any more. Spreads is that way everyone has gone these days.

Florence much much much much nicer.

ComeWhineWithMe · 23/02/2009 08:47

He may be coming round to Flora . He owes me because he got me to agree to a name he had really wanted and I wasn't overly keen on last pg he actually convinced me when I was high on gas & air .

Nice (quite common in Scotland) but a tad old fashoned yet not quite ready to come back?

piscesmoon · 23/02/2009 09:23

I still don't think that it is fair to have a name the DP hates.

MrsMattie · 23/02/2009 09:23

Meh.

Guadalupe · 23/02/2009 10:52

Bit different to come round to a name you're not keen on and hating it. Can you come round to a name that you hate?

ComeWhineWithMe · 23/02/2009 11:23

When I said coming rond he did actually say this morning it wasn't that bad of course I wouldn't make him go with a name he hates .
As for me coming rond to a name I hated if you look at my posting history I have posted a few times about my dd's name not been my choice and even considered changing it at one point because it just wasn't a name I would have usually gone with .
But when she was a couple of weeks old she was very ill and it seemed like a very minor thing she is here now and her name is here to stay and it suits her but I am going to have more of a say this time and if I want to push for a name I love I will especially as he is now saying it is an ok name .
Last week he hated Ella now he loves it he is very fickle like me.

Flora is gorgeous and was used as a name long before the margarine brand came into being!!

Violet and Mabel also lovely or how about Viola (v similar to Violet but a bit more feminine perhaps because of the 'a' ending).

ComeWhineWithMe · 23/02/2009 11:31

I like Viola .

I can spell round BTW .

The hardest thing with names is finding something you both really like (it doesn't really matter what we think TBH!) DH didn't like the name I loved for DS but came round and it is the perfect name for him. He also didn't like the name I wanted for DD but didn't change his mind so we compromised on my 2nd favourite. Ironically, DD came home the other night saying she would love to be called "the name" i loved and wanted for her. How spooky is that?

Wigglesworth · 23/02/2009 11:42

Don't like it sorry, also there could be all kinds of connotations about marg and spreading when she's older, kids pick on the slightest thing.

troutpout · 23/02/2009 11:52

it's ok
just ok...it neither particularly pleases or displeases. Maybe that's a good thing

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 23/02/2009 12:03

I have a Flora. Most people are say that they love it, and no one has ever been vulgar enough to mention the margerine thing (to our faces anyway ). Does anyone still eat Flora margerine?

VeryAnnieMary · 23/02/2009 14:10

Love Flora

OrmIrian · 23/02/2009 14:11

Like.

traceybath · 23/02/2009 14:12

I love Flora but my DH doesn't like it either.

I think if your DH hates it then its a no-go.

Do like violet though.

Lizzylou · 23/02/2009 14:12

I like the name Flora very much

Fimbo · 23/02/2009 14:14

One of the prof skaters on Dancing on Ice is called Florentine, which I think is nice.

intheLiffey · 23/02/2009 15:24

Flora is lovely but you both like Mabel and Violet!

I prefer Mabel to Violet, so Mabel Violet.

Florentine sounds like a posh biscuit. Too much frill.

SAEJ · 23/02/2009 17:35

I love it but 'spreads easily' always comes to mind.

intheLiffey · 23/02/2009 19:55

that is no longer on the lid. I checked once. It's assumed I spose.

thumbwitch · 23/02/2009 22:02

margarine has a set level of fat, like butter. Most spreads don't have so much fat in them. Margarine was never a low fat option, just different type of fat - many of the low fat spreads obviously have less fat than both butter and marg. THat's why you're not supposed to use low fat spreads in cooking.
