Righteo, have name changed for this because I want to give my other DCs names and don't want people in RL to be able to identify me by them and read some of my other, more personal posts!

DH and myself have just discovered we're pregnant again, we thought we'd give it one last shot and if it happened it happened and if not no worries.

Well we're thrilled to pieces but a bit stuck on names! having 6DCS already we've used up a lot of our favourite names!

So far we have:
DS1, Archibald Edward (Archie) 16
DD1, Christabelle Edie Jocasta 15
DD2, Ottilie Violet Grace 11
DS2, Hamish Rupert 7
DD3, Antigone Lila Rae nearly 3
DD4, Flossie Isabella Rose 1

so does anyone have any wise suggestions? we quite like Fabrizia, Seraphina, Delphi, Yveline, Ivy, Regan, Kitty and Isolde and for DSs Xerxes, Apollo, Oberon (king of the fairies connotations though, maybe too cruel?) Caspian, Ptolemy, Horatio and Titus.
But none of these seem to REALLY grab us.

Well, troll or no...
you have to use Septimus- I adore it, but there is no way I'll be getting to 7!

Undine/Ondine for a girl

jabberwocky · 24/02/2009 02:29

Ds1 has a good friend named Odin

jabberwocky · 24/02/2009 02:31

Oh, I just saw Calliope. I really love that name.

MrsJohnCusack · 24/02/2009 03:00

I have an Isolda. it's a great name
like Ivy and Kitty too

belgo · 24/02/2009 07:24

getorfmoiland - Wulfric is a great name, very similar to ds's name.

I know a child called Thor.

BoffinMum · 24/02/2009 08:09

There are all the great Wagnerian and very old English names to tap into as well:

Edeltraud
Brunhilde (or even just Hilda)
Mathilde
Sieglinde
Siegfried
Ethelred

alors · 24/02/2009 08:33

Marmaduke
Balthazar
Achilles
Gawain
Baptiste
Gauthier

Aude
Athelie
Danae
Hortense
Clothilde
Garance

alors · 24/02/2009 09:37

Oh, and if you can dissociate from film references - Emmanuelle is beautiful.

twosofar · 24/02/2009 16:30

I think your children's names are wonderful. I don't care if you are a troll.. they are a brilliant set of names!

I can't bear all the snidey comments from people who seem to think names from classical literature, the Bible or mythology are somehow ridiculous and that it's far better to be one of 6 Jacks in the class..baa.

If you are really looking for a new name and are considering those in the original post, I'd steer clear of Regan: it may be King Lear's daughter, but it's also Paul Gascoigne's son

SouthernMeerkat · 24/02/2009 19:19

I can't for the life of me think why people think the OP is a troll - if anyone reads the names page on a Saturday in the Telegraph (as I do religiously!) then some of the names are fairly 'ordinary' on that barometer - albeit I think they're gorgeous! In fact, there is one family who I have seen over the years, who have recently had their 11th child, so motherof7, you have some catching up to do . They had similar names to yours, although they did call child number 10 Decima, or Decimus - can't remember if it was M or F.

We had (or rather, I had) Monty, Cosmo, Caspian, Sebastian, Hector, Hamish and Xavier on my boys list - DH wasn't convinced as having had number 3 private education went out of the window, and with a double barrelled surname, he didn't think it was fair (maybe he had a point .

So DS 3 is a Rufus instead. (although I secretly still wish he could be a Monty/Montgomery).

IloveBrucie · 24/02/2009 19:28

Oooh I have thought of another one, what about Loveday

IloveBrucie · 24/02/2009 19:29

& SM, I too religiously read the birth announcements every day, and am disappointed if there aren't a few unusual names

SouthernMeerkat · 24/02/2009 19:33

I agree ILB - there has to be a wacky one or two or I feel I've wasted my money

Although last weekend I was a bit jealous as a girl from my old school had just had number 2 son, and they both had names that I wanted but DH had vetoed!!!

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 24/02/2009 21:26

what were they southern?

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 24/02/2009 21:32

forgot these last night...

ariel
jocelyn
peregrine
lysander
ernest
moses

iona
agnes
muriel
magnoli a
myrtle
dorcas
persephone
priscilla

thumbwitch · 25/02/2009 00:37

oh no, you couldn't put Ariel on a boy's list now, not after Disney and their sodding Little Mermaid hijack!

SouthernMeerkat · 25/02/2009 09:35

ControlFreak - not sure whether I should put them together as it would identify her, but one of them was Milo (which I loved) and the other has been mentioned on this thread a couple of times as a cat's name....beginning with F...but there are a few where we live now, so I'm glad we didn't choose it in the end.

babynumber7 · 08/04/2009 16:34

Right, am due in 5 months, will most likely be 3.5 - 4 if any of the past 6 pregnancies have been anything to go by (not yet managed to carry one to term) and here is the shortlist me and DH (helped by the DCs) have come up with:

Caspian Aloysius
Atticus Ptolemy
Montgomery Peregrine (nn Monty, adore Peregrine but feel it might just be TOO out there for a first name)

Yveline Oenone Celeste
Eulalia Henrietta Isolde
Tahlia Adelphi Beau/Bo (not sure on the Bo/Beau, DH loves it though)

All input gratefully recieved, any glaring obvious causes for teasing there that we've missed?

OP posts:
ShowOfHands · 08/04/2009 16:37

Beau's a boy's name.

I do very much like Atticus Ptolemy and Eulalia Henrietta Isolde is beautiful.

Really dislike Tahlia.

belgo · 08/04/2009 16:42

Yveline is just too normal in comparison with the others.

iggypiggy · 08/04/2009 16:42

Eugenia is a nice name - I know someone called that

belgo · 08/04/2009 16:42

Bo can be for a girl.

iggypiggy · 08/04/2009 16:44

I know two Tahlia's by the way... (children)

Monty is fab

ShowOfHands · 08/04/2009 16:44

Yes Bo fine, but Beau is masculine.
