As it says in the title really it is to go with a Poppy.

No.

Geepers · 15/02/2009 10:48

Themed names are awful. Lucy, or Kate, or Emily would be much better.

mollyroger · 15/02/2009 10:58

Go for Rowan, still pretty, still in keeping, but not likely to arouse such strong feelings among people (though FWIW, I think berry sounds rather sweet.)

HensMum · 15/02/2009 11:01

"go with"? Your daughters aren't going to spend the rest of their lives together, it really doesn't matter is their names "match"

Nicki10 · 15/02/2009 18:36

Lucy, emily or Kate, you mean plain then Geepers.

Not to go with but just so people don't suggest something that sounds ridiculous with a Poppy.

I think Betty is cute but Poppy's friend is one. Not that keen on Rowan I'm afraid. I always think of it as a boys name.

If I had a choice between being named Berry, and having a proper, albeit plain, name then I know hands-down which wins.

Nicki10 · 15/02/2009 19:33

It's fine for some but I hated being one of 4 in a class and there were 5 Lucy's in my year and 3 Emily's. I'd never want this for my child to be one of many and end up not even being able to be a Emily B as there is also of those.

I also like a name with a bit more character.

SoupDragon · 15/02/2009 19:36

Berry is not a name with character, it's just plain stupid.

Unless you are or are married to a famous actor/popstar/footballer your child will be laughed at.

mrsbabookaloo · 15/02/2009 19:48

You could call her Beryl!! And Berry for short!

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/02/2009 21:22

Berry is short for Berenice, no? I know a small one (who is v cute) and a large one (friend of my mother's - who is not cute). As a nick name, why not?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 15/02/2009 21:51

Briony? Berry is just plain daft. Not quirky, just daft.

Cadelaide · 15/02/2009 22:30

I like it.

So does DP.

We never like the same names.

DollyMessiter · 15/02/2009 22:33

As a nickname it is OK, but Berry is silly as a proper name.

How about Petal, Seed, Stamen or Muffin to go with Poppy?

SalmonintheLiffey · 15/02/2009 22:40

Berry is quite a common sur name, she might end up Berry Berry, which is like a disease!

I think Maggie goes well with Poppy.

PeachyHasABrokenKeyboardSorry · 15/02/2009 22:42

Or she could amrry one of my boys- Berry Peach anyone? That's a yoghurt, right?

SalmonintheLiffey · 15/02/2009 22:44

Berry Peach, oh that sounds so Sleb!

Slambang · 15/02/2009 22:46

please don't

midlandsmumof4 · 16/02/2009 00:48

Nicki-if you don't want your daughter to share her name with others in her class then choose an old fashioned one. There is so much emphasis on choosing unusual names these days they are in danger of becoming common.

She'll just get called Beryl.

Or Bezzer.

Why don't you call her Madame de Pompadour?

And also, when she's an adolescent, people will ask her 'have you lost your cherry, berry?'

twentypence · 16/02/2009 01:05

Not in the Northern accent I have. It would come out like the town Bury.

Poppy is the name of a particular flower, Berry could be any one of the end stages of lots of flowers. So it doesn't really go.

nappyaddict · 16/02/2009 01:21

I like it.

SalmonintheLiffey · 16/02/2009 10:00

I like Beryl. I see it like Mabel. Both are beautiful sounds. I like Meryl too.

I see Meryl coming back first. Beryl isn't a massive leap from Belle imo, and it's less cutesy than Belle.

SalmonintheLiffey · 16/02/2009 10:02

OP, what about Magnolia with Maggie for short. Poppy and Maggie sound gorgeous together. They 'go' without being themey in an eye roll way.

Nicki10 · 16/02/2009 10:57

I love Maggie, poppy would have been a Maggie if i'd had my way but DP strongly dislikes it!.
