As it says in the title really it is to go with a Poppy.

I like Berry actually - depends on the surname though...

waht about Willow

jeanjeannie · 13/02/2009 21:16

I know two girls called Berengere - and they're both called 'Berry' Great as a nickname - not as a 'real' name though

I've got an Iris - that's flowery

MrsMattie · 13/02/2009 21:22

Iris is lovely. I think I would consider that for another DD (imaginary, of course - Dh has put his foot down and there will be no more! )

flamingnora · 13/02/2009 21:25

Don't like it. I am also prejudiced because I know an absolute imbecile woman called Berry. I'd steer clear!

audley · 13/02/2009 21:40

Berry is pretty, different and a bit hippy, I Like

Cheeseismyweakness · 13/02/2009 21:42

Agnes

MamaMaiasaura · 13/02/2009 21:44

Thumbs down here

merryberry · 13/02/2009 21:44

never thought of it as a really name
would have considered meredith (merry) for a girl, though that would have probably predestined her to be a morose wee thing.

to be obscure, berry used to be short for betram. viz the Dornford Yates books, all very what-ho.

if i was going for poppy, i think i'd give a formal middle name for child to play with themselves later. something liek good old elizabeth

menolike · 13/02/2009 21:44

violet

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 13/02/2009 21:45

I think Berry is lovely, wish I had thought of it!

merryberry · 13/02/2009 21:45

bertram, sorry

girlandboy · 13/02/2009 21:49

Berry! No not really, sorry but it just reminds me of "to bury something". She'll spend the rest of her life explaining her name.

And I'm sorry you hate my dd's name!

squeaver · 13/02/2009 21:51

I usually hate these silly, nonsense names, but for some reason I quite like Berry,

Clary · 13/02/2009 21:58

We know a Berrie and she is such a lovely girl.

It's not the kind of name I like but I like it because I like her IYKWIM.

I am sure she doesn't get horror from friends - but I didn't know her as a baby tbh.

DH thinks it's silly tho

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 13/02/2009 22:00

Spelling it Berrie makes quite a difference actually, it has fewer associations with fruit. Its lovely.

merryandmad · 13/02/2009 22:03

Merryberry- my dd2 is Meredith, with Merry for short- but everyone thinks her name is Mary

TheSmallClanger · 13/02/2009 22:15

One of the Queen's dogs is called Berry.

It is a good name for an old lady's vicious pet. It is not a good name for a person.

Sidge · 13/02/2009 22:36

Berry - no.

I know a Briar though which I think is quite cool.

MitchyInge · 13/02/2009 22:49

people might call her Barry by mistake

sleepsforwimps · 13/02/2009 23:06

My df wanted to call our dog Berry but i wouldn't let him on the grounds that it might sound like i'm shouting 'Barry' across the park. So i got to name him instead, even though everyone thinks the name i gave him is a girls name, but that's a whole different topic...

So a definite no don't name her Barry from me

I would recommend doing the old 'practise shouting the name out' test for kids names as well as dogs names, as of course they all tend to run away from you at some point at the park and it's a good test to see how daft you might sound.

Jenbot · 14/02/2009 16:09

I quite like it. Not sure if I'd be quite brave enough to use it though.

sleepforwimps I like to say crossly "(potential name), spit that out of your mouth right now!" to see how silly it sounds.

wotulookinatasquotedinTheTimes · 14/02/2009 16:15

No.

inthenarkynonk · 14/02/2009 18:19

SoupDragon · 14/02/2009 18:20

Don't be ridiculous.
