Not Mango or Princess Tiaami before anyone thinks they are being really witty!

I am mixed race dh is white, so our child would look olive skined (like ds) or very possibly like a pale black/mixed raced person. Just thought i'd get that in before anyone flames me! Telling me how awful it is to inflict such a name on a typical British looking child.

My name is arabic in origin. Ds has a very british biblical name and i would like a more unusual name if i were to have a girl.

Moana means ocean. Is Tahitian and also (I'm told recently) Mauri.

hoppybird · 27/01/2009 12:52

Spanish names:

Carmen
Paloma
Roxana (originally from Persian, meaning "bright" or "dawn")

Serena - (italian name)

Latifa - (arabic meaning "gentle, Kind")

this is a good resource for international names - it also gives you name days - sometimes there's a nice one that happens to occur on the birthday.

thumbwitch · 28/01/2009 16:29

actually, even though this is very like your own name, what about
Sancia?

sazzerbear · 28/01/2009 16:31

What about this classic one in our lcoal paper the other day ...Paradice - yes, I have spelt it as it was intended!!

LittleMissBliss · 28/01/2009 20:28

Sancia is too close to my name may become a bit confusing!

Malena is lovely, as Malaya, i really like sing-song names. Well most names ending in a really .

Tea would be a lovely middle name i think.
Is it pronounced tea-a? Sazzerbear,
Was it an African/ African American person?
I've come across
a
Comfort- really suited the lady
Charity
Sugar
Coffee
Happiness
Patience
Secret(???)

Some of them aren't to my taste. It's pretty standard within the culture to name babies after emotions or atributes they wish on the child. So paradise doesn't surprise me. Not sure about their choice of spelling....

thumbwitch · 28/01/2009 21:51

I dont like Malena cos it sounds too much like melaena (a medical term referring to black stools that indicate blood in the stool - sorry!)

Tea - yes, Te-ah
