How often rally are kids known by their initials.

GossipMonger · 26/01/2009 13:57

It is fine.

Otherwise there would be no Ben Jones or Benedict James or Benjamin Jenkins in the world and I am sure there are some!!

minouminou · 26/01/2009 13:58

Snigger.
You know you can't.
Beatrice is a great name, but there are just too many dirty minds out there!

Iklboo · 26/01/2009 13:58

I remember a kids programme in the 70s/80's called BJ and The Bear.
But i reckon it'd be a long time before someone twigged. I was in high school before anyine got my initials were TB

CuppaTeaJanice · 26/01/2009 13:59

Worse than WC, not as bad as VD, and much, much better than KKK!!

I'm having the same dilemma with BNP!

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 26/01/2009 14:01

LOL- have just emailed DH to suggest again.... ma expecting barrage of NOOOOOOOO

I wonder if I could get child to always use full intials rather than short form if they ever need to use them.

I use my 3 initials when initialing things rather than the usualtwo- and I dont have weird initials!

girlandboy · 26/01/2009 14:06

georgiemum -

WinkyWinkola · 26/01/2009 14:08

I really don't like the nasty minds that sully lovely names.

DH wouldn't consider Pearl because of pearly necklace or Flora because of spreads easily.

It's just stoooopid.

MadameCastafiore · 26/01/2009 14:09

There was a boy I knew growing up called Barry John - found it funnier that someone was called Barry (yuk!) than his initial being BJ.

georgiemum · 26/01/2009 14:09

Nooooooooooooooooooooo! Is that a US thing? I have never heard of it!

My sister was at a christening for a John Thomas. She got scowled at by the vicar.

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 26/01/2009 14:14

definately not just a US thing...

John Thomas is lovely name but is slightly unfortunate- but only if you have foul mind!

I must have had a sheltered life!

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 26/01/2009 14:18

think I did too til I met DH!

though he just replied to say he likes the name more than he'd worry about the BJ bit!

Good - I like Bea as a nickname.

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 26/01/2009 14:21

ooh So do I! Think Bea is lovely. Really excited about the name now!

Now for the boys name..... this is going to be a long road!.....

I avoided a J mn to go with DS B fn, and I regret it now. In retrospect I don't think it would be a problem

trixymalixy · 26/01/2009 14:35

My son was nearly a BJ. We had decided on the name and told my Dad who said " Oh so he'll be called BJ" in all innocence.

My DH nearly had a fit as he had a teacher with the initials BJ who got the pi** ripped out of him by the pupils, so we changed the name.

Thankfully my dad cottoned on by himself, but we nearly had to explain to him why BJ would be so bad!!

I really ddin't think it would be a problem, but DH was adamant that it would and we wanted to avoid setting our DS up for potential bullying.

CuppaTeaJanice · 26/01/2009 14:35

GYo - not using them yet, just for a possible DS2 in the future. The only boys names I like all seem to begin with B!

Hi herbie
Would you pronounce Bea as "Bee"?

OP posts:
GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 26/01/2009 14:46

BTW, Beatrice was my grandmothers middle name, am so keen to use it since I am walking clone of this grandmother... would be lovely for grandpa who is nearly 99!
