Does being called Piers confine the bearer to a life of pink shirts?

I quite like the name though.

I have a Miles and would have loved Piers, Rupert / Jasper / Rufus, but was not allowed. But i'm a bit snooty

BonsoirAnna · 24/01/2009 19:18

I agree with other posters that Piers falls into the same social segment as Tristram, Christian, Miles, Rupert, Crispin, Jasper, Rufus etc...

Don't even think about it if you don't have money for public school fees and a generous deposit for a first flat in SW-something .

CioccolataCalda · 24/01/2009 19:19

I know a seriously cool one who is a bit 'indie' (sp) and def not pink shirted at all!

ScottishMummy · 24/01/2009 19:20

aye but is he and/or dadeeee loaded?

Pinkchampagne · 24/01/2009 19:28

I only know one Piers & he is in touch with his feminine side!

tengreenbottles · 24/01/2009 20:20

the only piers i know is the best kisser in the worls ever dont tell DH

CrushWithEyeliner · 24/01/2009 20:51

Awfully pretentious name Piers, an lower middle class name - on the same radar as Miles but just doesn't have the likeability factor a Rufus or a Jasper will have.

It just makes me shudder. It sounds like the parents are trying really hard.

CrushWithEyeliner · 24/01/2009 20:51

a lower middle class name

nkf · 24/01/2009 20:54

It's posh but not very nice. Sounds too much like Piss and Pierce.

OchAyeballsintheSky · 24/01/2009 20:56

PMSL @ me trying to tell MIL that Piers is a lower middle class name! BIL is Piers and I think I've seen him in pale pink once, but he doesn't make a habit of it!

BrownSuga · 24/01/2009 20:59

The only Piers I knew was a pink wearing shirt kind of guy. He also liked other pastel colours. But if you're tall, blond and blue eyed it's a really great look. He was also a very in demand IT expert.

CioccolataCalda · 24/01/2009 22:39

seriously cool one has not got a loaded dad as far as I know!!

Think it is OK but if you have to ask if it is too pretentious then it prob is for you.

CioccolataCalda · 24/01/2009 22:40

oh dear - been to the pub for the first time in ages. I mean prob NOT for you but then realised that this is a pink shirt issue!

listenglisten · 24/01/2009 22:43

No, my ds has a Piers in his class.

wheesht · 24/01/2009 22:44

You learn something new every day. Didn't realise that Christian was a Piers equivalent type of name. That was my chosen name for a ds. Maybe just as well we only had girls...

Mind you, I do rather like pink shirts.

vess · 25/01/2009 10:23

I know a grown-up Piers who hates his name with a passion. He even claimed he couldn't find a job because of his name - and, strangely enough, he got a few job offers when he started spelling it Pearce.
No pink shirts, though.

I don't mind the name personally, don't love it either.
