I like it

Cies · 21/01/2009 22:40

Do you have any Italian connections? If not, IMO it's a bit odd to call your son such an Italian name. But that's just my opinion

cheesesarnie · 21/01/2009 22:46

my dd is molly but i have no irish connections.odd.

lou33 · 22/01/2009 00:57

my friend had a girl on monday and called her molly

vess · 22/01/2009 05:00

I know a baby Luca - his mum is Italian, though.

Prefer Lucas.

oliviasmama · 22/01/2009 05:19

I like it a lot

nooka · 22/01/2009 05:35

I would assume it was a girl.

LynetteScavo · 22/01/2009 07:40

I love it.

Astrophe · 22/01/2009 07:42

I love it - would never think it was a girl's name. Not so keen on Lucas - sounds too close to mucous.

countrylover · 22/01/2009 12:40

I love it too and DH wants it for our DS due in a couple of months.

However we don't have any Italian roots whatsoever and so I'm reluctant to give him such a Mediterranian sounding name when DH is Irish!

my friends boy is called Luca and i think its a wonderful name.. i'd have used it if it worked with my surname.

TwoIfBySea · 22/01/2009 13:09

My friend's ds is Luca. Plus they have a really long Italian surname (her dh is from Italian/Scottish stock) so it sounds really lyrical when spoken.

I also like Enzo if going down the Italian route. And my first boyfriend was called Fabrizio!

Brangelina · 22/01/2009 13:18

Nooo, Luca is a really common (as in ubiquitous) name in Italy, sort of equivalent of Jack. Very boring imo. I'd find it a bit weird sounding with a UK surname but then I suppose if Italians are choosing names such as Kevin and Brian (seen it written as Brayan), then anything goes.

Brangelina · 22/01/2009 13:19

Enzo is old man. Nobody under the age of 45 is called Enzo these days.

saltcod · 22/01/2009 13:19

Love it - DS is called Luca and no italian connections here

Bucharest · 22/01/2009 13:20

What Brangelina says...with bells on.
I loathe it, I have an irrational hatred for it. In both Italian and English.....

Brange- Dd has a Kevin in her nursery class- utter bonkers. On all levels.

Brangelina · 22/01/2009 13:22

Hello Bucharest! Seen Scamy lately?

annasmami · 22/01/2009 13:45

I would only name my son Luca if we had Italian connections.

And even if I wanted an Italian name, I'd probably choose a less common one.

helenhismadwife · 22/01/2009 17:04

I like Luca or Luke

PippiCalzelunghe · 22/01/2009 17:07

twoifbysea does your italian/scottish friend's surname starts with R by any chance? (not stalking )

from an italian point of view in italy Luca sounds boring as hell. I guess here sounds quite exhotic, although very popular especially in london even among non-italians. so if you like it i'd go for it without worrying about bulling and the like.

enzo def sounds old even though dd1 best friend in italy (aged 2) is called that.

TwoIfBySea · 23/01/2009 17:52

Haha, no Pippi! It starts with a C, 6 syllables (sp) long.

And I still like Enzo, even if it is old and fuddy-duddy! Lets face it, people call their kids Albert and Alfie which I think are old men names.

MuchLessTiredNow · 23/01/2009 17:56

I think it is quite pretty - but I would always be singing 'hello, my name is Luca' and it is a very very sad song about a child being abused, no?

DrowningInClutter · 23/01/2009 17:59

Makes me think of Luca (or is he Luka?) from ER. I have rather a soft spot for him so IMO this is a good association

Mammina · 23/01/2009 18:10

have always liked it
