DH is Luca and fortunately he is Italian!!

It is a very sexy name for a man and travels well through life IYKWIM.

DH loves his name.

nappyaddict · 21/01/2009 19:33

Love it

tumtumtetum · 21/01/2009 19:33

I know a few baby Lucas so i wouldn't be surprised if it starts to creep it's way up the charts!!!

kerryk · 21/01/2009 20:51

i have never heard of it before but it looks nice written down.

how is it pronounced?

is it like look-ah?

lingle · 21/01/2009 20:59

I am so sorry, but I'm going to ask you not to do this. Please make it his second name.

If he is confident, it will be fine. But if he is in the least bit shy or vulnerable, it will expose him to bullying. Names finishing with "a" signify the feminine in most languages including ours.

My (Italian) schoolfriend is Luca. I vividly remember the howls of laughter as the teacher mispronounced his name "Lucy" on the first day of school. He was regularly teased about it. He coped, but it was a burden. It is a cool name now and he loves it but the harm is done. Please make it the middle name.

emma1977 · 21/01/2009 20:59

I wanted to call ds Luca.

I bottled it at the last minute after a few comments from my mum, but still love the name.

marge2 · 21/01/2009 21:00

Luca is a really nice name.! Go for it!

dsrplus8haggisandneeps · 21/01/2009 21:08

love it , always wanted luca or luchiania ,for dc but doesnt go with the family surname, (would have went with my maiden name, lol).wish id stuck to it the world needs another LUCA !

dsrplus8haggisandneeps · 21/01/2009 21:11

if you like itallian names, how about , fabio or donatelli, enzo is quite nice too!

lingle · 21/01/2009 21:43

remember, it does not matter whether other mothers like it. but it does matter if other boys tease him.

Perhaps boys have changed since Luca and I were children. But I doubt it. If you are not Italian, then it's no multiplied by two.

cheesesarnie · 21/01/2009 21:44

lovely

seeker · 21/01/2009 21:46

I think names ending in a always sound like girls names. Please don't do it.

mazzystartled · 21/01/2009 21:51

I really really like it
But there are two on our street

RachieB · 21/01/2009 21:52

kerry,its pronounced Luke - a

I prefer Lucas

PlainOldPeachy · 21/01/2009 21:52

I like it, never met one myself

othersideofchannel · 21/01/2009 21:59

Has a very Italian ring to it...

And I find it a little feminine sounding, probably because it ends in 'a'.

If you want an Italian name, I prefer Luciano, Fabio or Alessandro.

MrsDoylesMole · 21/01/2009 21:59

Nice name ,i know of 3 round here.

wuglet · 21/01/2009 22:09

Lovely name - was my second choice for DS.

And as it is becoming more common will not get people thinking it is a girls name etc.

Still to meet one myself (most of my name opinions are heavily influenced by people I know with that name )

no5 · 21/01/2009 22:11

i rather like lucas. its shortened lucas, isn it?

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 21/01/2009 22:17

It's one of those names I like but would never use because we don't have any Italian roots, but there are plenty of people who don't think that is important. It is very popular on babynaming chatrooms, classed as a 'modern classic' along with Finlay and Zac. I believe Colin Firth's children are called Luca and Matteo.

LaDiDaDi · 21/01/2009 22:31

Very nice. Really like it .

thequietone · 21/01/2009 22:36

my DS2 is called Lucca. We always loved Luca as a name and then visited Lucca in Tuscany a few years back. It was so stunning that we decided to use the name and add our own extra bit to make him special
