Yay or nay?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
breadandroses · 14/01/2009 11:18

God no, what are you THINKING?

stillstanding · 14/01/2009 11:18

Are you in the UK? Then no.

georgimama · 14/01/2009 11:18

Don't be ridiculous.

Have you seen this thread?

Try the name "Boo" out and see how far down the list you get before you realise it is daft.

nappyaddict · 14/01/2009 11:18

No not chavs, quite the opposite really. Quite the boden kids One has parents who are a teacher and a doctor and the other's parents are a barrister and an accountant.

OP posts:
kittywise · 14/01/2009 11:21

fgs don't be so ridiculous

pinkblossom · 14/01/2009 11:23

No!! OK for a nickname but not for a "proper" name.

BoccaDellaVerita · 14/01/2009 11:25

Ok as a nickname but, as a given name on the birth certificate, it might as well be Mock-Me.

Pannacotta · 14/01/2009 11:26

We use it as a nickname for DS2 but he is 19 months old and very baby like still.
As MP says, its ok for a baby, but not for a man, so probably no.
No reason why you cant use it as a nickname, in that capacity it is very cute IMO..

Clarissimo · 14/01/2009 11:33

Like everyone else says...

can oyu imagine the Prime Minister being Mr Boo Brown? Or the head of the Bank of England being named Boo? How would you feel having a Consultant named Boo?

DS3 was nicknamed bobo for a few years, but has a sensible rl name to use.

I do think Beau is OK though, not fab but acceptable. Perhaps as a middle name?

GrimmaTheNome · 14/01/2009 11:36

Blimey. If I was a boy and had been officially named 'Boo' then I'd insist on everyone calling me by my nickname which would be something like John or Dave (whatever ultra-conventional choice would most jar on my idiot parents)

cheesesarnie · 14/01/2009 11:39

i know a 2 male beaus.i love it.and neither chavs.

rempy · 14/01/2009 11:41

Grimma, a friend of mine tells a story of a man she works with christened Timo (after a rally driver of the era).

We are oop North.

He called himself Dave for most of his teens, twenties and thirties.

Now in his forties he has reverted to Timo. Some of the time.

OP, Boo to a goose? At least spell it properly.

georgimama · 14/01/2009 11:41

Beau is a name though. Boo is not. It's daft.

BoccaDellaVerita · 14/01/2009 11:44

Clarissimo - I think like you about a Prime Minister, Governor of the Bank of England or Professor of Surgery called Boo. But, what if the Chancellor of the Exchequer is called Fifi Honey, the President of the Law Society is called Rainbow and the Professor of Psychiatry is called Indigo Star? Maybe the norms are shifting!

dizzydixies · 14/01/2009 11:46

I wouldn't but WOULD use it as a nn for something like Bodie or Brodie

like Beau though

Clarissimo · 14/01/2009 11:49

Maybie they are Boco... but as my female choices (never used) were Katie, Aisha, Bethany and Taya, it won't be me doing the shifting- too big a risk!

DS2 has an unusual name, unusual but neither unheard of nor a term used in hide and seek(major sporetsman of the past shares it with him).

ComeWhineWithMe · 14/01/2009 11:50

My dd's nickname is boo as in Gaby -Boo it is not on her birth certificate and it's only because when ds forst saw her he said "hello Gaby-boo" .

But no way would I ever use it as a real name it's a bit cruel .

BoccaDellaVerita · 14/01/2009 11:53

"a term used in hide and seek". Yep, that does it for me!

Dropdeadfred · 14/01/2009 12:04

my friend had a little boy 2 years ago and for the first year of his life he was nicknamed boo...that isn't his real name and as he got older and knew his real name Boo has gradually disappeared...

If you like it as a baby name then cal him it, but don't name him it officially ifykwim

cheesesarnie · 14/01/2009 12:08

just realise ds2 gets called tombliboo.i could change it by dead poll.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 14/01/2009 12:30

haha, cheesesarnie- our ds is also tombliboo!

cheesesarnie · 14/01/2009 12:40

we need one more

Luxmum · 14/01/2009 13:05

Agree, it's just not a name really, is it? And is it pronounced Boooo or beau? No. He will get the shite kicked out of him in the playground. And will hate you forever. he will take on his second name of Nigel rather than be called Boo in school. And then you will be stuck with a resentful teenager called Nigel.

vess · 14/01/2009 13:06

Caspar might work better as in the friendly ghost..
