I like the name Honey but not sure whether it's a bit brave?

Any thoughts?
My mum actually suggested it and I do think it's a really pretty name and like my mum said, how could your little girl not be a little cutie with a name like Honey?
But I'm quite boring and not sure if it's a bit unusual, I've never heard of anyone else called Honey, apart from the girl in the film!

I think it is a gorgeous name - reminds me of Honey from the Princess Poppy books - those books have also made me love the name Poppy too!! Seriously though - as a baby honey makes me htinkg how cute and sweet and as an adult you imagine a beatiful woman with a mane of light coloured hair and deep brown eyes. Go for it!

Hmm - I have a niece named Honey. Not overly keen to be honest. Lovely name for a new born baby but totally fails grown-up work name test for me, sorry.

I've always called DH honey as a term of endearment and was told I couldn't anymore when DN was born. I still do, but not as often now.

Do you remember Captain Darling in Blackadder?

LilRedWG · 05/01/2009 08:42

You most definitely CAN say it angrily. Ask my niece.

MrsBadger · 05/01/2009 08:43

nope

fails the poledancer test

NomDePlume · 05/01/2009 08:45

It doesn't bring forth any strong feelings in me but I do wonder how good it would be on a grown woman

BecauseImWorthIt · 05/01/2009 08:48

Makes me think of a ditsy blonde. OK if that's what she turns out to be, but not sure about how it would suit a rocket scientist or top Government minister ...

Mooseheart · 05/01/2009 08:55

Great - for a pole dancing labrador.

Mooseheart · 05/01/2009 08:55

I think by choosing the name Honey you are already pigeonholing her in terms of how she should look and behave. There is every chance your dd will NOT be blonde, cute and affable. Sorry, but the name would not work on a non- blonde, non-cute and non-affable child.

I went to school with someone called Honey. Definitely not a ditsy blonde (She was Head Girl iirc) She was lovely, and it really suited her.

WinkyWinkola · 05/01/2009 08:58

I used to work with a Honey. She was a hard nosed, very successful account director and not sweet in any way!

It's funny - names just become names in the end and they tend to lose their original meaning when they're on a person, I find. People just accept them and get on with it.

If you like Honey, then go for it.

piscesmoon · 05/01/2009 09:09

It is a very popular dog's name.

LiffeyAnnaLivia · 05/01/2009 09:22

Plenty of people do Not automatically make the connection but to me it is and will always be a name that has become 'sexualised'.

It's cute, but not good enough for a person.

What about Dulcie? Much classier.
Not sexualised.

LiffeyAnnaLivia · 05/01/2009 09:27

lol at pole dancing labrador!!

You have to give your child a name which will suit her if heaven forbid she is a little overweight and not immediately attractive and/or has her head stuck in a book 24/7 and never wanted a cute name to start with.

Thunderduck · 05/01/2009 09:59

I love the name.

BonsoirAnna · 05/01/2009 10:01

Not as a first name. As a second name or a nickname, perhaps.

Helsbels4 · 05/01/2009 10:07

I think it's lovely and if you like it, go for it! I heard a little girl being called Honey the other day and thought how sweet it was but there again, I like wackier names. Better than being called what everyone else is at school.

RachieB · 05/01/2009 13:28

if you must use it have it as a middle name!

very chav and porn star stylee to me!

mummyofboys · 05/01/2009 15:31

I knew a labrador called Honey (also sounds like something you'd read on one of those postcards in a phone box) SORRY.....

ForeverOptimistic · 05/01/2009 15:34

I don't like it. There was a little girl in ds's nursery called Honey and I cringed every time I heard it is daft it should be a pet name or a middle name but it isn't fair on the child to use something so sickly for their first name.

LaDiDaDi · 05/01/2009 15:39

There was a Honey a year or two above me at medical school. Rich, posh, nice, big boobs. "Honey's cups runneth over" was the boys tag line for her. I think she's a cardiologist now.

gauly · 05/01/2009 15:46

Isn't there a Bond girl called Honey?? My first thought anyway. Maybe it could be used as short for something - Honor?? I can't think of anything really nice beginning with "Hon".

joyfuleyes · 05/01/2009 16:02

It's dreadful - a porn name. Please don't, she won't be a little girl forever.

stillstanding · 05/01/2009 16:04

I think it's very sweet but brave indeed. And, seriously, what kind of job can Honey hold down?

LiffeyAnnaLivia · 05/01/2009 16:07

Honor with nn HOney is a good idea, if you must but Honor is nicer.

andaSOLOnewyear · 05/01/2009 23:21

LilRed, I remember Blackadder, why did you ask? I didn'tr see all of them though...was there a Honey in it?
