I know one - she is in a family with a Norah and a Stanley.
It's a sweet name but not for me

piscesmoon · 30/12/2008 21:56

The old ladies that I know with the name don't like it-don't inflict it!

gigglewitch · 30/12/2008 21:56

love it. don't know any either.

a mum i know from school playground just called her baby maud and i was a bit at that tho

piscesmoon · 30/12/2008 21:56

My Aunt Elsie never ever used the name, unless she had to in a formal setting.

BalthazarCandleQueen · 30/12/2008 21:57

My middle names come from my Grandmothers.
Pat GM is June and MatGM was Elsie. But Mum and Dad swapped letters around to make Elise as they thought June Elsie was "cruel".
But I do love the name Elsie, it's got Old Lady Chic, but not over-used or old-fashioned.

LynetteScavo · 30/12/2008 22:02

I love it.

I said a few years ago Elsie was a lovely name (DH wasn't so sure). I don't know any baby Elsies, but I hear there are some around.

bekkaboo · 30/12/2008 22:03

I think it's really sweet. I don't know any Elsies.

ChasingSquirrels · 30/12/2008 22:08

well, the well mannered people (such as myself) say "that's lovely".

SmilleysPeople · 30/12/2008 22:08

Elsie is very nice.

If you like old lady chic, may I suggest Dilys?

We considered using this but have 2 DS's.

fishie · 30/12/2008 22:09

bekkaboo of course it is a lovely name. you could go with elspeth and shorten.

really though i do wonder what the fuck playgrounds all these mners children live in where those who have unusual names are routinely victimised. what happens if someone is foreign?

Heated · 30/12/2008 22:10

I know only of one who will be 3 this year/2009. I prefer Elsa with the nn Elsie but think it's a cute name.

BoccaDellaVerita · 30/12/2008 22:12

There was one at baby music who must now be about 6. Her brother was Arthur, if I recall correctly.

fruitstick · 30/12/2008 22:15

Elsie is my girl's name choice, as it was my grandmother's name. i love it.

But then again Arthur is my boy's name choice so I'm fully embracing the whole geriatric chic!

And if all those Chloes and Emilys want to tease them in the playground ...... let 'em try!

ChasingSquirrels · 30/12/2008 22:18

it's a name, if people don't like it then they say something polite then go OMFG to other friends. Then it moves on, it is the child's name and pretty soom it is who that child is.
Children get teased about things, I don't remember anyone getting teased because of their name, more because they smelled, they were no goo at something etc etc. Oh, and 2nd names, they were good fodder for teasing, presumably because no one knows them,

nooonit · 30/12/2008 22:18

Our DD2 (nearly 1) is Elsa (thank you Heated!)
and we do occasionally (esp her 4yr old sister) call her Elsie. I like both. Think people grow into their names. Go for it!

cascade · 30/12/2008 22:22

My dd who is 6 has elsie as a middle name. My nan who had just passed away and dh nan are both elsies, so thought it would be nice to call dd after them. But to be honest couldnt really face calling dd first name elsie. When we told dh nan that dd middle name was going to be elsie she replied. oh dont do that I hate my name!!!

Hulababy · 30/12/2008 22:23

I quite like Elsie

nula · 30/12/2008 22:31

LOVE it.
Cute as anything for a little girl.
