I'll go first: DD was very nearly Sapphire.

I also really wanted Twm for a boy (Welsh for Tom), but I am not Welsh! I just thought it was fab to have a name with no vowels!

My DH wanted Ljubljana for our DD1. Ljubljana (pronounced Lyublyana) is the capital of Slovenia, where we were on holiday just before we got married, and the word means "beloved". Concept highly worthy but nevertheless I put my foot down so she is Milena, which is the Czech name for the same concept.

I wanted Rio at first, but when he came, we had a Noah.

lecohen · 08/01/2009 15:41

I wanted Luella for dd1 but hub said absolutely no way lol

I much prefer the name we agreed on - Laylee

I wanted to call DS Inigo, Malachi or Inyaki but DH wouldn't let me. Fair enough, they are wierd names you might say...

but wait until you hear what his suggestions were: Mowgli (as in the jungle book), Reef (as in not even a name) and Killian (well at least it's a proper name)

Poor DS didn't have a name until he was 5.6 weeks old!
(He's called a relatively normal Milo)

Willow
Aspen
Linnea
Fionn
Mabel
Elspeth

All the lovely Irish names sound great with our surname but we are not at all Irish so Declan, Dylan, Niamh, Siobhan etc all vetoed.

Also have giant list of old lady names incl Edith (my favorite) that I will never get to use.

moodlumhohohoodlum · 08/01/2009 22:53

for ds I wanted

Spike
Buddy

DH wanted for DS Frodo or Austin

For DD I wanted Tallulah or Kitty (appreciate that neither are particularly revolutionary) but both were veto'd.

As it was the name we chose for ds was described by dh's aunt as a name for a dog, certainly not a boy..

CatchaStar · 08/01/2009 22:56

I don't think it's unusual but I wanted dd to be Seren.

justneedsomesleep · 08/01/2009 23:02

Tarquin!and Chase
Both of which dh said a definte no to!

Fo our dd, it was Cadence and Arianna.
Agian, no to both.

We were really keen on Elysia, as in Elysian fields, and also Ruby.

Only decided against Ruby when my best friend's other best friend also named it as her favourite while we were both pregnant before they were both born. Although I still love the name, it spooked me at the time.

I loved Hugo for a boy but we never had one.

Not sure whether I think our final choice was particularly wise, but I still love it.

Catch a star, I love Seren, wated Sarin for our dd but dh was no way!! (BTW, when I was younger I always thought woman had veto on names. I kow that's ridiculous but was quite shocked when he had strong opinions!)
