Ok, meant to ask this when I asked about my possible DS name of Herbie but now - what do you think of Mabel? Not even sure if this is the correc spelling yet - heard it last week and love it.

Nancy66 · 18/12/2008 20:00

For me, it's an old lady name too far...just doesn't have the appeal of some of the others for some reason. it's a bit harsh.

MissusHoHoHo · 18/12/2008 20:03

my goldfish is called Mabel

Now Martha is fab (couldn't use it for dd2 as it doesn't go with our surname )

MonicaFree · 18/12/2008 20:03

I think it's horrible. Reminds me of a donkey for some reason.

I can't imagine a child thanking you for it.

mummiesnet · 18/12/2008 20:12

Typical MN for opinion to love it though. Please don't take the ponces on here as a reflection of RL will you.

OneLieIn · 18/12/2008 20:13

Awful, really really awful.

Heated · 18/12/2008 20:13

I like it, old fashioned but sweet. Come on, there are people out there calling their kids way worse than that.

mummiesnet · 18/12/2008 20:25

Would you want to me called Mabel? Seriously?

15 years old and trying to impress the boys at the ice rink or whatever. "what's your name?" "Mabel"

PMSL!

IAteTheWholeSelectionBox · 18/12/2008 20:41

Yeah but he'll probably be called Bernard so it'll be fine.

LynetteScavo · 18/12/2008 20:44

Able Mable.

I love it.

hippipotami · 18/12/2008 20:47

The thing is, a lot of 'old lady' names are coming back in. At dd's school there is an Elspeth, an Edie and a Martha. Lovely names. I like Mabel as well. Very pretty.

Martha was ruined for me by Martha in Dr Who. Lots of Marthas around now.

jellybeans · 18/12/2008 20:49

not keen on old lady names, sorry!

PestoHoHoHoMonster · 18/12/2008 20:50

cute

Jenbottleofeggnog · 18/12/2008 22:06

Although I think I like Mavis better.
