I have 6 kids... 4 dd's and 2 ds's... both my son's and one of my daughter's hate their names and middle names.

I feel like such a failure!

Linnie A
River D
Russell-Jay A
Nemea L
Coral V
and
Acacius J

I think they are lovely, does anyone like them?

Ok, troll or not. I actually LOVE the names. I think i'm going to steal Nemea away.

I've heard the myth before, it's a really pretty story and her mum was called Selene. .

OP - tell your ds's that you were going to call them Willy and Cassandra, i think they'll be pretty happy with their names then!!

Only name i really dislike is Russell-Jay i mean it'd be abreviated to RJ. That's a bit of a chav name?
Sorry if you take affence.

well, I can see why a kid would hate them. They are too unusual

TopBitch · 18/12/2008 09:23

I like all of the their second names and I LOVE river. It's so unique.

I have both a chinese name and an English name. Unfortunately, the English one is also a bit long as it's hyphenated, so I go by a shorter name. If your children don't like their names, ask them if they would like to change.

Did you know that in many countries, the name is a common word? You could be named Banana or Small (in the local language) and it's not a big issue.

Why should kids have to like the names we chose for them?
As a teenager I changed my name from one common name to another common name I don't really remember why, any more, I guess 1st common name was just too grown up or old-fashioned for me! 2nd common name seemed prettier at the time.
My mother forgave me.
No Big Deal.

I like River, Russell and Coral. Others are hardly the worst I ever heard.
Looking at names of DS reception classmates the other day, I realised that about 80% were unusual: Trinity, Kristian, Kai, Chelsea, Zaranne (pronounced "Sa-rahn"), etc.

TB, while River may or may not be lovely according to preference, it is in no way unique: over 1000 children were given it as a forename between 1984 and 2005 and doubtless many more in the subsequent years.

Think up an 'obscure' name and chances are someone is already called it.

I, on the other hand, have a child with an absolutely unique name, even though his nickname is nearly always at the top of the lists - his (hyphenated) surname actually IS unique (for the moment)!

BabyBaby123 · 18/12/2008 13:44

River is not unique - I know a very chavvy couple who have one

jinglebelles · 18/12/2008 21:28

you chose what you like that is what is important!!
