I have 6 kids... 4 dd's and 2 ds's... both my son's and one of my daughter's hate their names and middle names.

I feel like such a failure!

Linnie A
River D
Russell-Jay A
Nemea L
Coral V
and
Acacius J

I think they are lovely, does anyone like them?

Comfort yourself in the knowledge that at least the kids have some taste

MmmMum · 16/12/2008 21:02

am not new. new name because of identity crap and i wanted to use their names so you understood.

clearly i'm some kind of a joke for a mother.

not a joke for a mother no.

but surely you can see that those names are unusual to say the least?

I like them for the onebatmother reasons. Where does Nemea come from?

mummiesnet · 16/12/2008 21:08

I knew a Calico-Blue once, I guess that's worse..

MmmMum · 16/12/2008 21:10

Nemea it's from a myth. She's supposed to be goddess of mountains.

Well, I understand why your children hate their names - it didn't occur to you at the time that your son might not thank you for calling him Russell-Jay Adonis?

ggirlsbells · 16/12/2008 21:12

I actually like their names.

They are unusual and obviously mean something to you

themulledmanneredjanitor · 16/12/2008 21:14

i think when you are choosing names you have to imagine your child being older and walking into a room and introducing themselves as the name.

'hi, my name is...pleased to meet you'

so 'hi my name is acacius' might be quite difficult.

mummiesnet · 16/12/2008 21:14

Why did you hyphenate Russel-Jay?

MmmMum · 16/12/2008 21:14

Thank you ggirlsbells.

Nancy - well i thought RJ is an averagey name and his middle name isn't printed anywhere apart from his birth certificate, so nobody at school knows unless he tells them.

Children often hate their names.

MmmMum · 16/12/2008 21:15

It's just something i chose, i liked the ring of it together.

I like 'em and even if I ddn't it shouldn't matter.I used to hate my first name and surname and wanted to be called Jane Smith,I have got used to it...so will yours. My ds1 went through a phase of not liking his name,he is fine now.I don't think that based on your dc's names you are a bad mother

maretta · 16/12/2008 21:16

How old are your kids?

I think the names are irrelavant to this issue. The 'I hate my name phase' is a normal developmental phase. I went through it and my name is fairly dull, I like it well enough.

I bet they'll come to love them, you won't forget their cvs when they're on your desk.

MmmMum · 16/12/2008 21:17

I have an awfully common name so i just wanted my kids to have something different but likeable.

How old is your ds1 dingdong?

MmmMum · 16/12/2008 21:18

My eldest is 19 and my youngest is nearing 8.

Just out of curiosity, did your H or P have much say in this? I only ask because I think some of mine might have been more towards your end of the spectrum had I utterly had my own way in the name department. Is Linnie short for anything?

DingdongmerrilyonDOO · 16/12/2008 21:20

He is 9.It started when he was about 7and ahalf 8ish

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 16/12/2008 21:21

I hated my name because I was teased about it throughout school. Actually, I still think "WTF were you thinking!" about my parents.

Fillyjonk · 16/12/2008 21:21

oh ffs

they are fine names

they are unusual and i expect your kids are at that age when they want to fit in, that is all.

having an unusual name is good actually (I have one). people remember it.

god it could be so much worse, you could have a bunch of chloes, jacks, ellies, etc.

DingdongmerrilyonDOO · 16/12/2008 21:21

My dp had to curb some of my suggestions. One of which was Yoda,,so you can tell yours they have got off lightlyHe wouldn't even let me have it as a middle name[boo]

PuzzYuleLogs · 16/12/2008 21:22

I didn't like my unusual name as a child. I love it now even though it has attracted rather disparaging remarks on one or two baby name threads.

Nemea and Coral are very pretty.

Fillyjonk · 16/12/2008 21:22

and they can always change them if they hate then, can't they? its easy enough.
