Is Ava gaining popularity?

I love the name but have heard of a couple of girls being named Ava recently. I thought I was being really original when I named my son Luca 5 years ago, and since then I've met quite a few! I want a name that goes with Luca without sounding too 'fashionable'...

Ava is very popular at the moment. There are 3 at DD's nursery.

It's still a lovely name though.

I love the name but I think Myleene Kalss calling her dd Ava has made it more known and used.

Klass

Argh, drives me mad when I think I've thought of something unusual and then everyone else has a moment of collective psychic-ness and uses the name as well. I could SWEAR I thought of the name Mia first, and look what happens! ;)

I've heard of quite a few new babies round here called Ava.
Lovely name though, don't let it put you off.

I know a 4yo Ava and a baby Ava.

But then I know a lot of kids.

It's a nice name and I'll tell you what - it's blardy easy to write and spell.

Ava (4yo) can write down her name in class a darn sight faster than her pals Charlotte and Alexandra...

Massively popular where I am in SW London - I know of three born this year. The new Chloe I think.

Nancy66 · 14/12/2008 13:07

In fact I've just seen the 2008 baby name list and Ava is at no. 20

CrackopentheBaileys · 14/12/2008 13:11

I live in Surrey, my dd has the middle name Ava and I know of NO others in my area.... it is a bit of a marmite name I warn you, I get a real mixed bag of responses!

CrackopentheBaileys · 14/12/2008 13:12

coco goes really nicely with Luca.....

scorpio1 · 14/12/2008 13:14

link to baby name list 2008 please?

Nancy66 · 14/12/2008 13:18

it's on the Bounty site - don't know how reliable it is but i know the national office of statistics do release their annual list the 2nd week in December so presumably it's accurate.

can't do links - sorry!

I only know of 2 Ava's. 1 is nearly 6 and the other is 2.

I agree, it does, but DH has a fit at anything he terms remotely out of the ordinary. So I've had that!

It's true, I hadn't thought that 2 names ending in 'A' might be hard to run together. Still love it though...

My little lady is 9 months and called ava - named due to the meaning 'bird like, free' etc. It is certainly a beautiful lets just hope it des not get the chav status due to over use!

MrsMattie · 23/01/2009 20:51

I know two toddlers called Ava and a pregnant friend is planning on using it if she has a girl. It's pretty, though.

Laugs · 23/01/2009 20:54

There is a girl at DD's nursery called Avy. I hadn't heard of that before but think it's quite sweet.
