Please help, I just found out it's a boy and I need the boy version of Annabel which was my chosen girl name. Any ideas?
(and don't say Sebastian because DH will say no).

Teal and Topaz!! Lovely, they sound like pandas at the zoo.

pity about Bruce. I like it. It makes me think of that guy on BBC2 who goes into remote African villages and drinks goat blood and turns his foreskin inside out. Do you know the guy I mean??

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 14/12/2008 18:51

Got it. Anatoly. I think it's Russian though. Scotland and Russia, both very cold.

(but I prefer Roscoe, is it growing on ya, is it? is it?)

delightedoldbag34 · 14/12/2008 18:51

No, liffey you've totally lost me there! DH and I are totally flummoxed........
Bruce Forsyth?!

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 14/12/2008 18:52

Bruce Parry!!!! It just popped into my brain. My brain is overwhelmed with all the names just 'popping' in.

delightedoldbag34 · 14/12/2008 18:53

Anatoly?
Sounds like a Russian spy.

delightedoldbag34 · 14/12/2008 18:54

and a 'toly' up here is (ahem ) a jobby!
That wouldn't be a good nickname

delightedoldbag34 · 14/12/2008 18:55

Bruce Parry, right must wikipedia him! Anyone who can (or wants to) turn his foreskin inside out sounds interesting.

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 14/12/2008 18:57

Bruce Parry

Pity about Anatoly. Not tempted by Ptolemy then? As recently discussed here. [wretching and wincing in disbelief emoticon}

He's bonkers but quite attractive is a strange way. Would make a terrible husband though, what with always being in Africa!

delightedoldbag34 · 14/12/2008 19:01

I quite like that other posh one with a silly name. He's always doing dangerous gung-ho things.
Bear Gryllis - now he's a sexy man. (but ditto rubbish husband material I'd reckon).
Hmm what about 'Bear'?
(I quite like Tiger but wouldn't DARE)

MadamAnt · 14/12/2008 19:01

I absolutely LOVE Roscoe (Roscoe Beck is currently touring as Leonard Cohen's bassist). It would be a strong contender for my hypothetical DC3, if it wasn't for the fact that I would then have three DCs with "R" names, which might be a bit odd.

Sholto, Mungo and Murdo are all also fantastic.

However, DH and I were talking about the possibility of having a "Murdo" and we decided that it sounds better with a Scottish accent (Murrrrdo).

delightedoldbag34 · 14/12/2008 19:02

DH says Ross yes, Roscoe no.
He's so dull.

delightedoldbag34 · 14/12/2008 19:04

Hmm not sure you'd get away with Murdo outside Scotland. Even in Scotland there were only 7 Murdo's registered in 2007. (Although our Murdo is actually a Murdoch on his birth cert).

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 14/12/2008 19:05

Is there a Scottish form of Tadhg? Pronounced like the first syllable of Tiger?

Tadhg with Tiger as a nn could work! I like Bruno too. Now Bruno was the name that I begged to be allowed call my son. Was allowed. That's a bear's name I was told.... It would have suited him. He's three now and I could still imagine him being called Bruno. I call him tubby bear sometimes anyway. He's not very fierce though. More of a chilled out, fond of his food, do I have to move? bear.

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 14/12/2008 19:07

The coe on Ross is the sporran though. Ross has been decelted and it's gone mainstream. Nothing wrong with that, but to put a bit of kilt back in to it, you need that 'coe' on the end!

delightedoldbag34 · 14/12/2008 19:11

Can't use Bruno. DD1 is getting a hamster for christmas and is calling it that. (Bruno Tonioli actually after he on Strictly). Plus SIL has it on her short list for her next boy.

delightedoldbag34 · 14/12/2008 19:13

Not that SIL is pg and she may go on to have another girl.
But you know what people are like about 'their' names and other people 'stealing' them. I'd never do that to her.

luvlydECMOrations · 14/12/2008 19:17

Annabob

MadamAnt · 14/12/2008 19:27

Lol luvly, but wouldn't Annabill be more apt?

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 14/12/2008 19:49

Yeah that'll piss off your SIL! If you get to use the nme first, but for a HAMSTER!!

delightedoldbag34 · 14/12/2008 20:38

I think that's fine though Liffey as by the time she's planning to have her next baby (about 3 yrs from now) the hamster will most likely be dead!

gigglewitch · 14/12/2008 20:41
