DH and I are having a nightmare - we are rubbish at deciding on a name as we are both very fussy. Please make suggestions for boys names - I don't want anything common (i.e he will be one of 3 in his class)

I will apologise in advance for dismissing most of them, we've already had a gazillion suggestions but I am hoping one of you can hit the jackpot! There is a photo of him in my profile if that helps.

Thanks

Let us know when you make your mind up!!!

KatieMorag · 12/11/2008 18:14

As you have a scottish surname, why dont you go for a Scottish but also English first name?

sorry not explaining it well. more " neutral"

so not Euan or Struan ( too Scottish)
not Richard or sebastian or Miles or felix( too English)
not Aiden or Connor ( too Irish)
not Owen ( too Welsh)

and one or three syllable not two

and not starting with S ( not stanley or Seth)

Edward - Ned for short. That's who he looks like to me!

mummyloveslucy · 12/11/2008 18:15

Charlie or Oliver would suit him, or William. I do prefere traditional older names that have stood the test of time.
I'm not keen on wierd or made up names.

seeker · 12/11/2008 18:16

Read the thread properly and realized you can't have Ned - but isn't it strange that so many of us though of it!

How about Edward - Ed for short?

shootfromthehip · 12/11/2008 18:16

Hector, Jonah, Tobias (Toby), Herve, Bob (you never get any Bob's any more), Oscar, Sebastian. I have a DS called one of them (and it's not Bob!). Can you guess which one it is?

shootfromthehip · 12/11/2008 18:19

Oh and he is BEAUTIFUL... my DH looked like a skinned rat so am very but I am glad to report that he is a wee honey now . He looks like a Toby too

pramspotter · 12/11/2008 18:21

Oh he is so gorgeous!! What a beautiful baby.

Pollyanna · 12/11/2008 18:21

I second Edward/Ned - I have one!

I met a very cute Edwin (Win) recently too.

mummyloveslucy · 12/11/2008 18:22

There's a reason you don't get any Bobs anymore.

lilQuidditchKel · 12/11/2008 18:22

Liam?

ButterflyBessie · 12/11/2008 18:23

If you like Z names why not Zebedee - great name and not at all common

thisisyesterday · 12/11/2008 18:24

Silas

shootfromthehip · 12/11/2008 18:25

I LOVE the name Bob- what's wrong with it

thisisyesterday · 12/11/2008 18:27

ooh Benedict really suits him

ChocOrange05 · 12/11/2008 18:31

Thanks guys - this is great. Do I sound wierd when I say a part of me doesn't want to name him because then he becomes a real person and I want him to stay so small and lovely and just my baby for now (we are still calling him peanut - his bump name). I know this is really selfish so we will pick a name very soon but I think my resistance to a lot of names is because of this.

dd says Julian

seeker · 12/11/2008 18:33

There is also a reason why you don't get many Zebidees!

PSCMUM · 12/11/2008 18:34

WILLIAM

seeker · 12/11/2008 18:35

We called ds "Boy" for ages for those very reasons, ChocOrange! He had a name, and a name we love, but it felt too grown up to call him it. He is still usually "Boy" at home.

shootfromthehip · 12/11/2008 18:36

Willy? Or if you're Scottish, Wullie? He's not a Willy to me

mummyloveslucy · 12/11/2008 18:37

Bob is just blunt and so dated that only men in their 60's are called it.

thisisyesterday · 12/11/2008 18:38

my dp is called Bob. and he's 30.
thank you very much

thisisyesterday · 12/11/2008 18:38

and there is, or there used to be, a lovely mumsnetter with a little boy called Bob

ButterflyBessie · 12/11/2008 18:38

Reason you don't find many Zebidees Seeker, is because that is the incorrect spelling

OTOH I have a nephew called Zebedee and I personally think it is a gorgeous name
