What do people think of Nina?
What kind of person does it make you think of?

LOVE IT!!

doesn't make me think of anyone in particular

giddykipper · 26/10/2008 19:24

Absolutely love it, DS would have been Nina.

scarymcclary · 26/10/2008 19:25

nina simone. I like it tho! Prob wouldnt use it myself, nit that keen.
I think names are very dependant on the surname and does it flow together. Also siblings names affect my choice a tad.

NotBigNotClever · 26/10/2008 19:26

and the Neurons

LynetteScavo · 26/10/2008 19:28

I've only known one Nina, and she was the most wonderful, intelligent, kind, patient person.

like it

wheresthehamster · 26/10/2008 19:36

Lovely name. She'll probably get teased about police siren noises NEENAH NEENAH but who cares.

EachPeachPearMum · 26/10/2008 19:41

It's lovely, and quite uncommon these days.
We know a Nina who is just coming up to 3, and it suits her down to the ground.

Works in most languages, most people can spell it too!

tartetatin · 26/10/2008 19:59

Very cute

Liffey · 26/10/2008 19:59

I love it. It's beautiful in a modest way. Quirkier than Anna, but its prettiness is enhanced by its simplicity.

MrsMattie · 26/10/2008 20:01

Gorgeous. Nina Simone connotations, but that's a good thing

Miyazaki · 26/10/2008 20:03

Love it. is v close to my heart.

Ellbell · 26/10/2008 20:05

Pretty ballerina !

But I do really like it. Had one in my class at secondary school (1978 onwards!) but don't know any nowadays.

In Italian it'd be a diminutive for Giovanna (> Giovannina > Nina).

Plonker · 26/10/2008 20:08

Nina Simone

I love the name Nina, but dh wouldn't contemplate it

Really lovely name!

macherie · 26/10/2008 20:19

It's a lovely name

findtheriver · 26/10/2008 20:23

Makes me think of someone sophisticated and clever

Scarletibis · 26/10/2008 20:29

I always used to think it sounded exotic and sophisticated and had it on my fave girls' names list.

Then met a couple of Nina's who were anything but which kind of put me off.

Nancy66 · 26/10/2008 20:46

I like it but don't love it - it's just one of those names that's impossible to be offended by - like James - but is just a bit bland

Nyx · 26/10/2008 22:27

I don't think it's bland; I think it's elegant. I really like it. One of my friends at school was a Nina and she got teased with the siren thing, "nee-naw nee-naw" but it didn't bother her and soon stopped.

bonnyb1 · 26/10/2008 22:43

like it, it makes me think of someone quirky and pretty, and maybe german (perhaps I am remembering the song '99 red balloons')

berolina · 26/10/2008 22:50

love it. Very cool name.

SunshineSmith · 26/10/2008 22:54

Well, there is a well know news reporter called Nina Nanah.... it makes chuckle every time I hear her reports.. along with Julia Cesar, another reporter!!

TwoFoggy · 27/10/2008 08:50

The ships were the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria, but not many people remember that (too many pub quizzes).

There is Nina and the Neurons but I dont think thats too bad, wouldnt put me off.

Also, Nina weenea is an American playground adaptation, excuse my spelling of weener.

LuLuBai · 27/10/2008 09:42

I like the name a lot. I do think of Columbus' ship but that doesn't bother me. Certainly hasn't put millions of people across the world from naming their daughter Maria has it!

It's a lovely simple and feminine sound. I think of the 50s singers Nina & Frederik (they did Mary's Boy Child I think) and I think of the character in Chekhov's play 'The Seagull' (although you might not want to delve into that).
