What about 'Lucy' but with 'Lux' for short?

Hi,

We really like the name Lux but it doesn't really have a long version. It is from the same origin/route as the name Lucy which we also like so we are toying with the idea of having Lucy as the full name but using Lux as the nickname. What do you think?

Thanks

Dove's nice - or just go the full monty and name her Imperial Leather

Hiya,

Thanks again for your comments (or most of tehm anyway!), I can't believe that Jo Whiley has used Lux as a middle name! I had no idea until I just read all your posts, it really made me smile.

I'm still undecided on the name but am really pleased with how many people have put positive comments. Even if I had posted 'do you ike the name Carol' I would have had some people saying it was an awful name. So to have a decent amount of positive comments for what is, I realise, a rare and often unheard of name is really encouraging.

Thanks for those who have suggested Luz, I do think that its is a nice name though I personally prefer the sound of Lux, but wonder how Lux could be silly if Luz is ok? To me they are both equally as uncommon as names.

Thanks again, and god bless Jo Whiley!

How about that, one more Lux (even if it is a middle name). In a few years it'll probably be a generally accepted name.

Kittywise when I was at school many moons ago, there were two boys called Ajaz and Tahir. They were best friends and the teacher couldn't get her tongue round their names (don't know why), so she decided to called them Ajax and Vim.

...

codtrolfreaky · 27/10/2008 22:51

err, that's just racist....(of her)

Yes it probably was racisim but this was in the early 80's and the boys thought it was funny.

The one called Ajaz was pronounced A JAZZ

EachPeachPearMum · 27/10/2008 22:59

DH wanted to use Ajax for DC1... but we ruled it out due to the cleaning product. 'Twas a girl anyway....

FimboGotAxed · 27/10/2008 23:00

Ajax the cleaning product was A JAX

EachPeachPearMum · 27/10/2008 23:05

don't think people would see a difference though tbh

filigreebet · 28/10/2008 01:49

Yes how about that girl784 bastian.
Now Lux is celeb as well as ugly. It is also unisex.

blinks · 28/10/2008 10:29

wehaveallbeenthere- are YOU called Lux? Is this poisonal?

I am aware it's Lex Luthor- it's called a 'pun'. Look it up.

wehaveallbeenthere · 28/10/2008 13:31

blinks, not me but a friend. All throughout school. Actually, from kindergarten on. We were learning to write (print) and my friend ran through the short part of the y on the end of Lucy. It looked like an x. This brought up the Lux from the teacher and it stuck.
I am aware that you were making a pun. Mine was better. (rolls eyes at your rolling eyes at my rolling eyes) Your turn. :P

Sounds like a washing detergent to me. Sorry

wehaveallbeenthere · 28/10/2008 15:01

We were in kindergarten. New environment, new friends and lots of new names. You don't make fun of your friends names. It doesn't matter if it is the most hideous name possible (shame on their parents if so).
Anyway, you'll find those that like it and those that do not. Just opinion, everyone has one and everyone is entitled.

blinks · 28/10/2008 18:27

according to pun classification definition, the aforementioned 'pun' is technically imperfect...however, i see no evidence of said superior punnery, wehaveallbeenthere. i therefore find in my favour

wehaveallbeenthere · 28/10/2008 21:28

blinks, hehe, overruled!!! Actually it was pretty good. Still, naughty for making fun of a name!!! In that regard you are declared "guilty"!!!

blinks · 28/10/2008 22:28
wehaveallbeenthere · 28/10/2008 22:45

sorry blinks, you are too valuable to the columns of Mners to serve out a sentence. Besides I read somewhere in the columns someone dreamt of going to jail where they would be served 3 hots and have their own bed and an hour of exercise. Every new mothers dream. A little privacy, a regular bedtime. Maybe I should go to jail????
A slap on the wrist? Too severe. I guess it's back to the threads and expected good behavior.

nuthacuppatea · 30/10/2008 07:57

Wasn't / isn't there a washing / soap powder called Lux? I have a boy called Luckson in my class who is Lux for short. I wonder if you should call her Luckdaughter, Luckygirl , or on a more serious note Lucretia (no idea what it means though) or one of the many Hindi type names beginning with Luc / Lak etc...

catelux · 02/11/2008 06:44

my surname is Lux, i've never heard it as a first name. And I've never had any problems with teasing with the 'lux sux' and 'lux fux' thing.
hahaha and Lux Kathryn, hmm, interesting seing as my name is Catherine Lux haha.

I love Lucy, but i would spell it Lucie...far prettier and less common. But it's your child so call it whatever you like.
I liked the suggestion of Lux Amelia, sounds beautiful and unusual.

anyway, let us know what you decide.

jlh69 · 02/11/2008 22:38

Makes me think of washing powder
