Astrid?

Clary · 25/10/2008 13:24

I love Agnes.

It was DS2's name if he was a girl (which he wasn't,obv).

But then my DC have old-fashioned names that have been roundly abused on these boards in the past

I like Edith too

amess · 25/10/2008 13:26

I would give it her as a middle name or use her middle name until she is old enough to decide whether she hates you or not but then don't they all hate us at some stage

UpJacobscreek · 25/10/2008 13:30

Oh amess ,I like that idea and dp would probbaly agree to it as a middle name but what first name to go with it ?
Some names I like are Molly, Grace ,Eve/Evie,Emma.

I think it's a lovely name but i probably wouldn't be brave enough to use it.

I love old fashioned, 'old lady' names but Agnes is probably a wee bit too old granny

1066andallthat · 25/10/2008 15:37

I'm a Agnes and Agatha fan, too - so, are you going to use it?

MyDaggerling · 25/10/2008 15:38

I like it but agree is sounds a lot like Alice

MockyCock · 25/10/2008 15:40

i looooooooooooove it.

loooooooooooooove it

love custy.

mustdripgore · 25/10/2008 15:40

i love it

mylittlescarypumpkin · 25/10/2008 15:42

I think it's too similar to Alice, personally, but that would be my only objection. She'll grow into it, I think they always do.

I think it's lovely. I know a two year old Angnes.

maretta · 25/10/2008 17:36

I like it.

annasmami · 25/10/2008 18:00

I like it too. Its a classic feminine name.

lunamoon2 · 25/10/2008 18:07

Oh I love it. I wanted to use as my dds middle name but that was a very long time ago and my other half vetoed it. I think it is becoming very hip at the moment, especially if you pronounce it as the French do.

Whatever name you choose someone will always hate it and tell you so!!!!

Go for it

I am meeting a very good friend called Agnes tonight. She is hungarian, and Agi for short. I assume it's pronunced slightly differently in hungary but I'm not sure.

PoppyCock · 25/10/2008 18:13

it's my mother's name. she haaaaaaaates it. she really does.

nooOOOoonki · 25/10/2008 18:19

sorry I think it is really ugly.

AbbeyA · 25/10/2008 18:30

It's an ugly name-don't do it!

Buckets · 25/10/2008 19:16

I love it. And Agatha too.

mynameisluka · 25/10/2008 19:29

I love this name. I was just thinking about it a couple of days ago and wishing I had a use for it!!

Joeymac · 29/10/2008 21:32

now I'm only a bit scottish but live in Scotland - maybe a true scot would be able to tell you a bit more about it but girls here called Agnes often call themselves 'Senga' as they feel it's more modern than Agnes which was seen as bit old fashioned (but I know the old names are back in so things may have moved on). Trouble is that people also tell me being called Senga is a bit chavvy - maybe turning your name round is a chav thing to do - who knows? Saying that I know a lovely 36 year old Senga and she is far from Chavvy - very refined and she did it. If you don't live in Scotland this is probs totally irrelevent.

kalo12 · 29/10/2008 21:36

agatha

Heated · 29/10/2008 21:37

Too similar to Alice imo.

Eliza, Edith, Clara, Elspeth, Sylvie, Thea, Mabel, Flora, Eve, Nora, Beatrice....?

AmBOO · 29/10/2008 22:33

I think she might...
