Should probably add that it should 'work' in French and English. We don't seem to have very many that we both like.....help!

I know an Alice whose siblings are Mary, Tom & Edith; & a Louis whose sisters are Phoebe & Beatrice - any good?

thanks, didn't expect such a quick response! I love Charlotte and Beatrice, unfortunately DH doesn't. He likes Violette...... Can't bear Edith or Mary.
William was on our list for Louis, so may well resurrect that one. I quite like Tom too, but also vetoed by DH, and a bit on the 'ordinary' side, lots and lots of them. I quite like Oscar too, but think I'm alone in that! Max won't get past DH either. Love Antoine, haven't suggested that one yet. Fingers crossed!

WendyWeber · 09/10/2008 21:58

got friend with a "Jean" who is male and now lives in English-speaking country with French DH - he gets teased to be honest as people say it's really a girls' name...

WendyWeber · 09/10/2008 22:09

Oooh, what about Matilda/Mathilde?

(If a girl of course )

Belgianchox · 09/10/2008 22:14

Curious which names you chose now Thirtysomething! From your list I really like Antoine, Olivier and Oscar. Jack too, but would be Jacques here in France, and seems too old-manish, not in a good way.
Hadn't thought of Chloe but quite like it, also love Joséphine, but am pretty sure DH won't. Love Louise, but too much like Louis, would sound like we had a total imagination failure

Madeleine? Florence?

Belgianchox · 09/10/2008 22:19

WW, love Mathilde! Underused here, I haven't heard of any round here. I also love Madeleine. Not keen on Charles or David.
I'm torn between wanting to know the sex to make this a bit easier, we can concentrate on one set of names, and wanting to keep a bit of mystery this time round (as it will most likely be our last child}

so it's confirmed we're having a boy! I now need to decide between Antoine, Samuel, Benjamin, Oscar, William and Edouard/Edward......
DP likes Ange, Eugene and Emile, but I don't think either of these travels well at all. what do you think?

OP posts:
artichokes · 29/11/2008 17:16

I love Emile.

castille · 29/11/2008 17:22

Not sure Ange and Eugene work very well in English. Emile is ok. Love Oscar.

And I know a Franco-Brit Alice whose brother is William.
