Yes, i know that he/she won't be here for ages yet but we are having name trauma.

I like (for a girl)

Meredith (shortened to Merry)
Katriona (shortened to Kitty)
Rhianna

For a boy:

Jago
Lucan
Rowan

Dh is unconvinced. He wants to call the baby Monkey if it's a boy and Kitty if it's a girl. I'm not sure he's taking it entirely seriously.

Is it Cat ray owna or Ka treen a?

MerlinsBeard · 01/10/2008 17:24

Did i miss your announcement>?!!!

Surely it should be Iguana??

EdwardCullenCanHaveMySoul · 01/10/2008 17:25

Love Meredith and Rowan also gets my vote

medogsarebarking · 01/10/2008 17:25

My DD's name is very similar to Rhianna and I love it. Also have Rowan down for a boy so they get my vote.

theSuburbanDryad · 01/10/2008 17:26

You are mixing me up with TrinityRhino I think MoM!!

Katriona would be Kat-reo-na. Then she could be Kitty/Kate/Kat/Iona if she wanted to.

Sorry

FlirtyThirty · 01/10/2008 17:27

I have Meredith and Catriona (Kat-reena) on my list so they would be my favs. I'm not keen on Rhianna.
Think I like Rowan best for a boy form your list, though to be honest, none are really my thing. How about Harley?

Fimbo · 01/10/2008 17:27

I like Meredith best I think. I did see a Merrilees in the paper the other day

theSuburbanDryad · 01/10/2008 17:28

Harley....NOOOOOO!!

I'm not sure a boy's name ending with eeeee would work for us as ds' name ends in an eeee sound!

MoM - that's ok! How are you and BabyMonster doing?

eandh · 01/10/2008 17:29

I like Meredith but love Kitty as that on its own.

There was a Rowan who went to a toddler group I went to and he uber cute so that gets my vote (not sure about Lucan but liek Lucas??)

theSuburbanDryad · 01/10/2008 17:29

Merrilees looks like a silly, made up name IMO!

theSuburbanDryad · 01/10/2008 17:30

Dh doesn't like Lucas and my ex has just named his ds2 Lucas, so I can't use that!

OP posts:
Pushpinia · 01/10/2008 17:31

Meredith is beautiful.

Lucas is good but Lucan just makes me think of disappearing aristocrats

is it really a first name?

Pushpinia · 01/10/2008 17:33

Ok Luca then? I know of one.

Fimbo · 01/10/2008 17:33

I agree Urban, Merrilees is not for me, I just thought you may like it . I also know a Marlowe

theSuburbanDryad · 01/10/2008 17:34

Lucan apparently means "place of the elms" which is I think why i like it. Everybody I've said to about Lucan says about the disappearing aristocrats thing so maybe I should drop that one...

I like names that are unusual but not too outlandish, or that have genuine meanings or a lot of history behind them. I like longer names which can then be shortened.

Jago is my favourite boy's name, because Jay-Jay (which it would undoubtedly be shortened to ) sounds really cute with the shortening of ds' name. Tis also a Cornish form of Jacob.

MerlinsBeard · 01/10/2008 17:36

I like Meredith, its v pretty (could also become Edith when she is an old lady)

There are alot of Lucan/Lucas/Luca 's around here at the moment

I like Jago but would take a particular child to pull it off (and similarly named siblings!)

BabyMonster is teething He is 7 months now!

theSuburbanDryad · 01/10/2008 17:39

Zacky and Jay-Jay sound like surfer dudes, non? (Or is that just in my head?)

OP posts:
MerlinsBeard · 01/10/2008 17:39

i LOVE the name Zack...Wish we had called it BabyMonster!

theSuburbanDryad · 01/10/2008 17:42

Ds is Zachary Oliver, which is quite a common name now. He would have been Zachary Arthur, but then his initials backwards would have been SPAZ, which is not ideal, obviously.

I would like to be a bit more "daring" with ds(?)2's name!!

For me Rowan seems feminine (I know it can be used by men). I don't really like the pronunciation of Katriona (sounds a bit whiny to me) although Kitty is a sweet pet name. Prefer Rhainnon to Rhianna (I know a very nice Rhiannon). So I like Meredith best from your list of girls names.

Lucan also make me think Lord Lucan. Jago is quite cool I guess. Goes well with Zachary.

BabyBaby123 · 01/10/2008 18:06

of your boys names, I really like Jago but Rowan is quite nice too.

Of your girls names, I like Rhianna best but prefer Rhiannon.

janeite · 01/10/2008 18:10

Rowan is my absolute favourite boys' name and would have been dd2's name, had she not been dd. Luca, Luke and Lucas I like but not Lucan. Don't like Jago but even that is better than Harley!

Meredith is beautiful; I don't like the other two suggestions for girls' names. I went to school with a Katriona who was a horrible bully though, so may have been warped in my opinions there.

FairLadyRantALot · 01/10/2008 18:10

don't like Meredith or Jago, but all teh other ones are lovely
