Yes, i know that he/she won't be here for ages yet but we are having name trauma.

I like (for a girl)

Meredith (shortened to Merry)
Katriona (shortened to Kitty)
Rhianna

For a boy:

Jago
Lucan
Rowan

Dh is unconvinced. He wants to call the baby Monkey if it's a boy and Kitty if it's a girl. I'm not sure he's taking it entirely seriously.

hm
the girls ones are welsh ones...is that what you tend to like?

for boiys I oculdn't make out a theme, so, will just throw some in

Rhys
Flynn (my very gorgeous ys name )
Owen

I do like Celtic-y names - Dh has connections with Cornwall and Ireland so I wouldn't feel too fraudulent using names with those roots. I just like the sound of Welsh names! I have a friend called Lyndele which I love, but dh hates.

The trouble with Celtic-y names is a lot of them have become quite chavvy. I really don't like Rhys or Flynn. Sorry.

Flynn isn't chavvy - i just really don't like it.

I love Meredith. Like your other girl's names too.

Not keen on Lucan - missing aristo and it's a suburb of Dublin. One I wouldn't like to live in!

I worked with a guy called Rohan which I though was nice.

theSuburbanDryad · 01/10/2008 18:32

I work with a guy called Rohin, Buda!!

Rohan makes me think of the Riders of Rohan from LotR!! Not necessarily a bad thing...

no offence taken..would be tragic if we liked all the same names....

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/10/2008 19:55

I love Meredith.

Not keen on any of the boys tbh (though like Rowan for a girl!). I like Lucian though, if you could see your way to adding the i.

TheNewsMonger · 01/10/2008 20:00

I like Meredith/Merry and Jago. Merry is lovely. Rowan is nice but a bit too androgenous now.

Lucas is nice, or Marcus. Lucan is a suburb in Dublin.

TheodoresMummy · 02/10/2008 07:39

Bryn ? (welsh for hill)
Beck ? (means a brook)
Eden ?
Sonny ? (very surfer dude )

I also had the names Jago and Rowan on my boys lists, so big thumbs up for both of them from me. Out of the girls names i like Meridith, unusual but not to much so and v. pretty, love that you can shorten it to Merry

chipmonkey · 02/10/2008 13:27

Rowan is a girl's name over here.
I used to live in Lucan, Co Dublin!

I'm Feb as well, lapin, and ds is a Jan baby.

Something to do with conceiving around Beltane Easter, I think!!

I'm Irish and Clodagh and Oisin seem quite posh Irish names to me! I kind of know what you mean about some celtic names although I won't mention them. Fergus is another 'posh' celtic name. NO idea how they are perceived in the UK though.

I have an aunt Rowan! When I first heard of Rowan Atkinson, I thought, but that's a girl's name.

cheesesarnie · 02/10/2008 21:29

i like Katriona (shortened to Kitty) and rowan
