Boy's name that goes well in German and English

Help!

I'm already a week overdue and still haven't agreed with my partner on a boy's name which goes well with the surname 'Wild' and also doesn't sound too different in German (I'm German and the child will spend some time there as well).

My favourite at the moment is 'Ennis Wild' - unusual but not pretentious, I find. Any opinions on that? Any other suggestions?

Thanks everybody!

When I read the title I was going to say 'Oscar'. But maybe not...

germansoph · 30/09/2008 22:08

Oscar has been suggested to us quite a few times - but always as a joke. So I think it might be a bit burdensome...

same here for Oscar but not good with Wild, how about George, Adam Harry, Joseph or Stephan?

germansoph · 30/09/2008 22:16

And what do you think of Ennis Wild, pickie?

I like Lucas too. How about Sebastian? I've never heard the name Ennis tbh.

Karl

Daniel? Joseph?

emkana · 30/09/2008 22:24

I would suggest Sebastian. I am German as well btw. Brilliant name and works well in both languages. And has added bonus of being slightly unusual in English, if not so in German.

germansoph · 30/09/2008 22:24

Nicolas I quite like, also Max - not so my partner. It seems to be really hard to agree on anything.
Towards Ennis he's at least sort of neutral. Any thoughts on that one?

My brother's name is Sebastian, so that's out of the question, I'm afraid...

Ennis, not for me, sounds like Enid.
Eric or Erik maybe?

Tinker · 30/09/2008 22:27

Ennis is a surname to me. Looks too much like penis as well. Sorry.

Tinker · 30/09/2008 22:28

Yes to Eric

emkana · 30/09/2008 22:28

How about Dominic

I'm not so keen on Ennis, and I think Germans would find it highly unusual and you'd get loads of "wie heisst er?"

Or how about Julian

emkana · 30/09/2008 22:29

Florian
Fabian

Jacob?

My nephew has parents that are english and german.

No change in spelling but pronunciation alters

pickie · 30/09/2008 22:31

Lol to Tinker and her pENNIS.

Like Jacob and maybe also Edward?

emkana · 30/09/2008 22:31

Matthias is another one which is quite "normal" in German but sounds beautiful and unusual in English.
