Finn or Felix?

Is Felix too consciously middle-class? I like the fact that Finn doesn't belong to a particular class and will worry that pople think i'm trying to impress by using a typically middle-class name like Felix? I am aware that Felix is the more unusual of the two but I don't think that popularity bothers me as i've loved both names for a long long time. Surname is Atkinson so they both go well.

Just after some opinions on them really.

TIA

My nephew who is 14 is a Felix. One of the reasons that my DB and DSIL chose the name was because it means "Happiness" and tbh my nephew is absolutely lovely.

Also know a Finn - but he is a bit moany!

MyDingaling · 27/09/2008 23:14

Felix is lovely

Felix sounds lovely hotmama and you sound like a fab auntie. Teehee at the moany Finn.

Custado 'everyone is Finn' - slightly OTT don't you think? There are none in my local neighbourhood and friends only know of a few. But yes, Felix is much more of an original choice!

Another vote for Finn (but I have one so am biased!)

Felix yep I thought of a cat as well and couldn't imagine calling "Felix" across the softplay/playground etc.

AnybodyHomeMcFly · 27/09/2008 23:28

Finn defo. And i prefer Finn to Finlay

hotmama · 27/09/2008 23:35

I call my nephew Feels and he is called FeFe by his parents.

The family cats have normal names - but his dsis does have another cat related name - bizarre!

suwoo · 27/09/2008 23:39

OK, IMO. I really liked Felix and Finn for DS, but decided against both as..... Finn is too chavvy and Felix is too closely linked to the cat. I did hear Felix at school this week and had a brief pang for it, but fear it will always be connected to the cat. We went for Noah BTW.

graffiti · 27/09/2008 23:49

Finn is too chavvy Surely not!

Perpendicular · 27/09/2008 23:50

No, Finn is not 'chavvy'.

suwoo · 27/09/2008 23:53

Sorry, here in Manchester it is chavvy. That is my opinion of the name as a lover, not a hater.

suwoo · 27/09/2008 23:55

Maybe Finlay/Finley is the more commonly used name than Finn by itself, but yes my opinion still stands unfortunately.

TheWoodWithinTheWall · 27/09/2008 23:58

Finn is lovely and not chavvy. Very middle class in these parts.

Personally I think Noah is fairly chavvy.

suwoo · 28/09/2008 00:02

Ooh, saucer of milk for thewoodwithinthewall.

Pen74 · 28/09/2008 00:03

My son is a Finn (Finlay) and we are painfully middle-class

ScottishMummy · 28/09/2008 00:03

finlay good Scottish name and V popular

TheWoodWithinTheWall · 28/09/2008 00:05

Sorry suwoo, just my opinion. Noah is the new Ethan; Overused and heading downwards.

suwoo · 28/09/2008 00:09

God, I hope not although did worry about this at the tine (he is nearly 2 if this helps), have only met 1 other Noah in the flesh round here, but inumerable Finlay's (not Finn). Maybe it is a regional thing?

graffiti · 28/09/2008 00:11

Easy ladies.

Please don't hijack my thread and turn it into a bitchfest.

suwoo · 28/09/2008 00:13

No bitching here. Me and thewood are telling it how it is T'is the MN way.

graffiti · 28/09/2008 00:15

Ok, but please let's stop the chav thing - it's really pathetic if you ask me. Finn/Finlay and Noah are all perfectly lovely names.

OP posts:
suwoo · 28/09/2008 00:17

OK, i agree for sure. All lovely names.

TheWoodWithinTheWall · 28/09/2008 00:22

Yeah all lovely names.

Go for Finn. My nephew is Finn (Finlay) and he has a blond mullet. All Finns must have blond mullets.

imaginaryfriend · 28/09/2008 00:25

Felix for definite. A fantastic name.

graffiti · 28/09/2008 00:31

My son will most probably have blond hair and I think that mullets on kids are dead cute!

My other nephew (Finn's brother) is Arthur. Another great blond mullet name .
